He preferred to talk and write on the board without using slides, and thus it's hard to a get a reference of what was taught if you wanted to review the lectures (no textbook either). The homework were long and occasionally hard. The exams had a mix of easy and hard questions. Zame was very quick and thorough when responding to my emails, including when I asked him about a FINAL problem afterwards. His positive attitude toward teaching was also reflected in lectures.
I can't speak for his econ 11 since I took it w/ Mazzocco. After taking the easy midterm, I thought we were going to have a super hard final. The final is actually heavily based on his homeworks so his final is definitely doable. Some homework problems are a bit tricky so you certainly need a good TA to help you out. I went to all the TA sections in the first two weeks, but I found all the TAs are actually pretty good. I got an A+ w/ Zame and that was after getting an A in econ 11. His notation might be a bit confusing but overall he is a good lecturer.
Very smart and a bit quirky. He's not as horrible as previous reviews claim. I think most people that post bad reviews are really really stupid and can't handle learning from intelligent professors. I think the awesome TA's made a huge difference as well. A lot of students avoided Econ 101 Winter 2011 because of his negative reviews. Bad move, he taught econ 101 well. I think most of the class got an A or A-. His test were straight forward and resembled what he taught. Some homework assignments were difficult and long but if you did them you'd do well on the tests.
