If you need an easy Historical Analysis GE class, this is the one to take! Textbooks are important for this class because TAs will discuss the textbook materials nearly every week and the participation is important for this class to get A or A+.

What a class! If you can be lucky enough to get this class, definitely take it. First, it’s ridiculously easy. Of course, all of this is TA dependent in terms of grading, but my TA literally said that “you’d have to try really hard to get a C in this class.” It’s really just a can you stay on top of your assignments type of thing in terms of grading, which is really nice. I have to say that this is one of the most well-run online classes that I’ve ever taken. Very clear and organized, there’s even a “to do” tab for each week, so you know exactly when everything is due. Lectures are actually super engaging, and really interesting! You only really have to do short sources for each week’s discussion, and the quizzes and discussions are easy to BS and still get full credit, but I actually found all of the sources to be pretty engaging. Workload is relatively light, assignments are really easy (you have maybe a one page paper due every other week, and weekly “post to piazza” with one word type thing), so this class won’t be difficult, but more along the lines of do you pay attention to deadlines. Some assignments were pretty fun, like we had to go on a tour around campus of the botanical gardens or YRL which was cool. Also, Worger gives some really awesome lectures. I just took the class because it’s legendarily easy, but it’s actually super interesting. I actually read all of the material, and found them to be quite engaging. I actually came away having learned more about the history of Africa, so I’d say this class was pretty valuable. Overall, very easy grading, super interesting content, and very well-organized. This definitely qualifies as one of those “easy GE” classes that friends recommend to each other. Take it if you can land it! It’ll be tough because it’s that popular!

Selling Course Texts Cheap! (It's required) Text ********** :)

This course was amazing. I definitely could not consider this course as a mere GE given the perspective shift about Africa that I left with. The course load is very flexible and light, so it wasn't hard getting an A. However, it was up to the student to either put in minimal work and get a decent grade or really reflect and ponder about the history of Africa and what part we have in it today. I love professor Worger and my TA Lucia!!!

For Spring 2018, Hist 10B with Worger was taught as an online class. As a result, the class allowed for a good amount of flexibility - you could watch the pre-recorded lectures at your own pace, and the online quizzes could be done whenever you wanted (within a given time span of a few days). The only thing that you had to "attend" was an online discussion that was once a week for 50 minutes (a time slot is given when you register for the class). I honestly did not find the material of the class very interesting, but for those looking for an easy history GE, I would recommend it. The major assignments for this class are essays (no midterm/final exam), and the essays are graded pretty generously and are generally short (~1000 words each).

In short, take this class if you're looking for a decently easy GE :)

Take! This! Class! I originally took this class just for an easy GE but it was SO interesting. It was highly engaging and I loved it. The online format is great because you can do most of the stuff on your own time, aside from one enrolled discussion on Zoom once a week. Participation is mandatory and there are weekly assignments, but they are entirely fair and manageable. There is also a midterm paper and a final paper. There are weekly quizzes based on the lecture and readings. Some of the readings were dry, but we got to read Trevor Noah's autobiography which is probably the best assigned reading I've had at UCLA. Grades haven't come out yet since the paper isn't due until Friday, but I'm currently at a 99% in the class so I'm anticipating an A.

This was an online course that was super easy. I highly recommend as a GE. If you apply yourself you can get an A easily. The class is really organized and I loved being able to watch the lectures at my own leisure. Professor Worger had interesting lectures. Discussions were also in a skype format which was different but cool because I could attend discussion while sitting in bed.
