The class is relatively simple, and there is not too much work. There is one group project that spans the entire quarter, but doesn't take too much time to do. The midterm was fair, but you must watch the lectures to understand what he looks for in the exam. No final, as the group project counts as your final!
I liked the class
Man was this a boring class, but professor is a nice guy and cracks dad jokes all the time.
Homework is very easy. It asks very specific questions from lecture that you will not remember, however if you read the textbook its like an 8th grade reading comprehension test. HOWEVER, they are graded harshly and because they are weighted heavily, it feels like a way of separating the class.
Exams suck because he does not prepare you, nor does he let you actually see your exam (midterm or final). He makes you go to OH to see it. If you manage to not fall asleep in lectures however, they are not that hard.
I didn’t have a lot of formal rapid prototyping education before this class, but that is exactly what I left with. Helpful for understanding the different processes at a high level. Not a difficult class, your participation in the group project and the midterm exam (no final exam) are key to success. It was a good introduction to this area of study.
I was super excited about this class, but it ended up being pretty pointless. The lectures were pretty much just a rerun of 183a, but they were super unclear. The redeeming quality of this class was the group product development project. It was run entirely by the TAs and was kinda fun, but also a little disorganized with covid. This class isn't bad as an elective, but it could be done so much better.
