Definitely one of the best professor's to learn from. Lectures are to the point and never boring. He likes to ask students questions mid-lecture to make sure his students understand the material. This course is worth your time.

That said, this EM course is time consuming and difficult if you are not in the EM-pathway/not well versed in EM. In addition, half of the class assignments are based on Matlab coding (which requires time to debug). You have to weigh the benefits of learning from one of the most student-friendly professors in the EE department versus the prospect of getting a B grade due to class difficulty/Matlab errors.

This may be the most demanding class that you take in grad school but do not be discouraged. If you are in the Physical and Wave Electronics research area, I highly advise you take this class; the sooner the better. The homework assignments take a great deal of time each week, but they will undoubtedly ingrain a deep sense of understanding regarding the course material. Dr. Rahmat-Samii is truly a master of electromagnetics and his lectures are second to none. There were seven homework assignments, one take home midterm (he gives students the option to vote for take-home or in-class), and one in-class final. Learning these advanced concepts from Rahmat-Samii is a real treat, and I would certainly take classes with him in the future. Make sure you attend classes, read the book, and work on all the homework problems. You will have to work for your grade, but he is reasonable and grades based off effort.
