Having limited knowledge of Chekhov and Russian literature in general before taking this class, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up really liking it. Professor Furman is very passionate about the subject, which made me actually enjoy coming to class. I liked how she facilitated the discussions and encouraged us to share our thoughts, and she would even share ideas from students who took the class with her previously. The class did rely a lot on participation, but she is accommodating to those who are shy/introverted. The reading responses, short write-up on a scholarly article, and oral presentation were all manageable and she grades fairly. I liked how detailed she was with her feedback without being punitive. She's also very kind and you can tell that she really cares for all of her students. I definitely left with a greater sense of appreciation for Chekhov and would love to take another Russian lit class with her!
