Professor Sabar is an excellent professor. As long as you already have some knowledge of Hebrew, he is extremely liberal with good grades. You just need to show him that you are genuinely interested in learning. His lectures are extremely interesting; he is very big on linguistics, and he knows more than half a dozen languages. I never want to miss his class, and I always like to hear the lectures. The reading isn't too bad because he gives you time to prepare it ahead of time. He is a very nice man and a very reasonable professor. He knows just how much to demand from his students, and he knows how to make them learn the material without overworking them. You will greatly enjoy his class. If you are looking to fulfill requirements, DEFINITELY take his class. Professor Sabar is very knowledgeable, and you will enjoy talking to him in his office or wherever. Second year Hebrew can be a little intimidating at first, but he will guide you through it and make it a truly enjoyable experience.

Took Yona Sabar for 102A in Fall 2012. This was my first Hebrew class and enrolling in 102A (intermediate) seemed like hell at first. However, if you know the basics of hebrew and understand most of it, the A is very doable! He assigns homework everyday to make you review the stuff, which is good because by the time the midterm and final comes around. YOU'RE SET! Definitely recommend taking him. He is one amazing guy and lets you correct mistakes you made in the homework and tests. TAKE HIM

I took Hebrew 102A-C with Professor Sabar, and he is one of my all-time favorite Professors at UCLA. As a man, he is very interesting and a master in his field. In class, he reinforces the basics but keeps you moving through modern Hebrew through a variety of mediums- newspaper, televised news, short stories, novels, basic grammar, etc. so you are never bored. There is daily homework, but it is easy and 100% relevant to classwork. He also greatly helps improve your verbal skills.

Although these classes were 5 days a week, I never dreaded going. Sabar is a very understanding Professor and his #1 priority is student learning. I would recommend this class to ANYONE who is looking for a good language experience at UCLA.
