He is a great professor and I highly recommend him. Though he is really busy he tries his best to help his students. Dr. Lin is also very difficult. He expects a lot out of his students. But if you show him that you are trying hard then he will help you where you need it. Just study diligently in his class and you should be okay.

Professor Lin is seriously one of the best teachers at UCLA. He is always available and if he's not, he'll make time for you. His lectures are pretty interesting and he's really funny. He has an accent but he's still understandable. Professor Lin cares a lot about his students. He even bought the whole lecture Diddy Reise and Belgium chocolates! So if you like Chem and like a challenge, take Professor Lin. He rewards the smart students and the students who try hard and actually improve. So that's what I like about the class but there's a lot of things I don't like about it either. I hate chem so this class just made me miserable. There's too much homework, due three days a week. I stayed up till 3 a.m. every night doing Chem homework. His grading policy is pretty decent actually. Homework counts for 25% so that's what saved me. I got a C and D on the midterms and I got an F on the final. There's no curve for the class but I was just happy I passed the class. The midterms are ridiculously long too. The first one is like 2-2.5 hours and the second is like 2.5-3 hours. Professor Lin doesn't really teach the same stuff as other Chem 20A professors though. He doesn't go over the basic stuff as much and he goes into deeper stuff that probably shows up later in Chem. I get the feeling that I'm not as prepared for Chem 20B. But he's still awesome because he gives out lecture notes and practice tests. Skipping lecture wouldn't be the best idea and discussions are pretty helpful. So if you're really smart, like Chem, want a challenge or have too much free time, he's definitely the teacher to take. If you hate Chem, I suggest you take Scerri. This class just killed my GPA but I'm glad I took it. Have fun looking for your classes!

Basically, Prof Lin is a really nice guy. the problem i had with him is that for chem 20 A we're supposed ti be learning basic chem stuff. With professor lin, we go into lots of detail on upper division subjects. Thats well and good if you want to study chemistry, but if like me, you are taking this class because your major requires it and you do not like chemistry, the material covered in the class is completely useless to you.
