I really liked this class! I found the material to be very interesting, and I enjoyed professors He's lectures when I was paying attention - I sometimes got distracted because he used crowded slides, which isn't a format I love. However, he posted slides online, and between that and textbook, picking up on the material wasn't too hard. The verilog projects and mini-hackathon, although challenging and incredibly frustrating, were very rewarding. His tests were very nice, very fair, but I found the homework grading (by an outside grader) to be incredibly unfair - marked down for expectations that the problem never stated. Only major objection is that two weeks after the course is over, final grades still aren't up.

This class has 3 projects, homework every week, and a quiz every other week. Tests were not too difficult.
Professor Yutao is an excellent teacher, not because of ability or skill to teach but because of his heart to teach students. It was clear to me that he cared more than enough to teach his students to not only learn the material of the topic, but to apply it as well. Though this class is one that many Computer Science students despise, I found it surprisingly enjoyable as Professor Yutao taught me to apply the topic material, went out of his way to provide extra office hours, and even took more time to discuss my career path as well as solutions to solving "impossible" problems that were not directly related to this class. I am a Computer Science major, but taking this class with Professor Yutao has given me a new found interest and excitement for low-level design and implementation, one that is not common for programming students. Furthermore, Professor Yutao went out of his way to set up an exciting Hackathon for students to implement designs that could be used for resume's, as well as experience in Verilog programming that is typically sought after in digital design internships. I found that his lectures were typically engaging as he attempted to explain topics well, attempted to allow room for questions (even though I may have asked too many), and attempted to give witty jokes throughout class. Initially taking this class just to "get it over with" for my major, I find myself leaving this class, missing Professor Yutao's jokes, love for students, and passion for the topic. Professors are typically graded by students as "terrible", "good", "difficult", "easy". If I had to grade Professor Yutao, it would not be within those bounds. The dictionary defines superlative as: of the highest kind, quality, or order, surpassing all else, or others. Supreme. I define it as Professor Yutao. As a teacher, as a comedian, and as a scientist, he is of the highest kind, quality, and order. There's nothing more you can ask for than a professor with a heart to teach. That is Professor Yutao. I will miss this class. I haven't had a "favorite professor" so far. I do now.

I had Professor He for EE M16.

I have nothing but good things to say about him. He is always funny and cheerful, and he always tells a cheesy joke halfway through class to wake us up. He does have a slight accent, but it is bearable. He will always try to cover as much as he can in his lectures. I feel that he is honestly easier than the other lecturers for this class. He had quizzes bi-weekly in discussion, and those were very fair. His midterms and final were definitely challenging but I did not feel cheated whatsoever. I would highly recommend this professor.
