Professor Kang is considered to be one of the best physics professors I have taken at UCLA. He is engaging and very helpful with students. He is great at explaining his view and the subject well but you need to go to his office hours. His office hours are very helpful. Use that time to talk about the subject and HW. His TA Reddy is extremely helpful as well for he doesn't rest with Professor Kang to provide the best quality teaching for the students. Professor Kang is constantly developing to be a better professor for all students alike. Here are the stats:
Midterms: 20% each. There are two midterms.
Evaluation: 1%
Discussion Worksheet: 3%
HW Mastering Physics: 16%
Final: 40%
All these stats can change due to the survey he does throughout the quarter. Depend on that survey he will work towards benefiting you as much as he can. So don't be rude when you get a bad midterm grade. Just make sure to work hard and do your best. Oh and he takes efforts into your grade. Good luck!

11/10 would take Kang again. Very straightforward and accommodating. I will say (at least for Spring 2020) there was a lot of busy work (weekly HW, [very easy] quiz, and worksheet), though I suppose if you don't do well on exams you would appreciate the 'free' points.

Literal god-tier professor, will listen to all of your worries and will try to get you THROUGH this class. After suffering through 1A and 1B and absolutely abhorring physics this class was incredibly reasonable and I learned a lot. Homework was also not too bad and we asked for easier tests and he gave them to us- I think final was like 96 median and no down curve. Gives extra credit if you participate on campuswire and holds frequent office hours and stuff. TA's were also super nice and friendly.

He’s one of the best Physics professors in the department. Class is fair and he teaches very effectively.

Dr. Kang’s lectures are engaging. The pacing is good. That said, because of COVID-19, the concepts still felt abstract.

The homework was worth a significant amount (20% I believe); it’s not something you can blow off. However, they’re online problem sets from Pearson. If you use the textbook and the internet, you should be able to consistently get 95% or better. He gives you 6 tries for free response questions, without penalties for wrong guesses. Also, the homework itself was around 2 hours per week; reasonable for a STEM class.

Practice exams were definitely useful. They more or less accurately reflected the difficulty of the real exams. The exams were fair.

Kang also scaled his class nicely. Even though exam averages were high, he didn’t make the curve any harder; we were given the same grading scale as the previous quarter. My ~88% landed me an A-

Very nice professor, and more importantly, a kind person. Would definitely take his class again if possible, and I strongly suggest taking him.

Though I haven't finished this class yet, I really want to leave something for Professor Kang. My grade is just a bit above average right now, and I don't know what kind of grade I will receive in the end, but I have to say it makes me feel like if I can't get an A, it's definitely my problem. I really think professor, TAs, and LAs have already done their best. It's the first time I met a professor who remembers to release the answers of all Pearson assignments and all weekly worksheets on bruinlearn after the deadlines for people review. It's so sweet and makes things much more convenient. What impressed me most is Professor Kang put detailed notes of every chapter on bruinlearn, and those notes are so clear that you can definitely understand what he's talking about during class with those notes. I love the notes so much. Plus, somebody said on campuswire that students have already forgot what they learned in phys 1A and 1B. It's true, at least it's true for me. Professor and LAs even hold a review session of 1A and 1B. I attended, LAs all did a great job and there were snacks, so cute!

Worksheets are graded on participation, lecture attendance are not required (though I high recommend you go to the lectures or you'll fall behind), and the exams are completely not tough if you treat your homework seriously. In short, I love this class no matter what my final grade is. I will definitely take his class again if I can meet him in the following phys classes.

Dr. Kang is awesome, I agree with everything written below. He really cares about student wellbeing and tailors his teaching/exam style to fit what works best for students, which is great!
Specifically, something that he mentioned one day in lecture really reflects how good of an instructor he is. He said that he believes the 1 series should introduce physics to students in an interesting and easy-to-comprehend way, since most of us aren't directly studying upper division physics later in college. His goal is to introduce how beautiful/complex physics is to inspire us to keep learning about it. This is a mindset that makes learning in his class really enjoyable as a student! Absolutely take this class with him if you can!

Professor Kang is the most caring professor I’ve had out of my two years at UCLA. I took this class online during the COVID-19 pandemic, and he was very accommodating by changing the structure of the class and the difficulty of the exams. He has an online form set up where we could provide feedback on the class anytime throughout the quarter, and he takes those comments seriously. Overall, this class was very enjoyable and I thought the exams were very reasonable.

Kang is very caring to student and a very reasonable person. 100% recommended!

Professor Kang was the most concerned with student learning. He did everything he could to ensure we knew the material. He was a great professor to have. His midterms were a bit hard. The questions were fair, but completing it was a bit of a time crunch, and he held lecture immediately after the lecture. His midterms were also very easy to miss points on and due to the nature of how he formatted them partial credit wasn't available much. I still strongly recommend him despite this. He was very clear and helpful both in lecture and out of lecture.
