While extremely intelligent and passionate about subject matter, Professor Chowdhury will make you work for your grade. Not a class to be a slouch in, and from early on, make sure that you don't miss a beat - not being forgiving with assignment grading, and a rather arbitrary grading scale for her writing projects (check minus, check, check plus) might leave you wondering why you received the final grade you did. The bulk of the class is in B-range, with her reserving higher marks for the truly exemplary. If you make a claim in her class when you participate, make sure to back it up.
EASY GE. Although it might have to do with the fact that the protests happened and altered how the class carried out after that. Basically just stopped requiring the weekly summaries.
No midterms, just papers which makes it pretty low-stress. You have to write a weekly summary about what you learned in class as well as your notes to make sure you pay attention but you get 100% for just submitting what is asked. The papers are easy and you can just go over them with your TA which will tell you exactly what to write and guide you in the right direction. The final was also a paper and very manageable. Honestly, the class really just depends on who you get as a TA as they grade everything for you, and having a more chill TA means a better grade in the class. I did not hear of anyone having a bad TA and I was really happy with mine. Shoutout Mr. Smith, made the class super interesting and enjoyable.
she was pretentious and used big words incorrectly... easy GE tho. loved oliver ruhl if you get him as a TA you are honestly set! she was just so hard to deal with, and wanted everyone to put art history above absolutely everything... also avoided classical discussions in favor of her own ideas and interpretations.
take this if you want to be looked down upon (af), but kill a GE :)
