I loved this seminar and I love Professor Berend. The workload was very managable - just a 1-2 page weekly memo based on the 2-3 readings every week and a final paper that was only 4 pages. She also reduced the number of assignments and readings when things were very hectic, like during the election, which I really appreciated. Most of your grade is "participation" but that doesn't mean you have to constantly speak - I tried to chime in once or twice every class with something inciteful and I got an A+. I personally feel she was a very fair grader. She uses a "check, check plus, check minus" system for grading the memos and as long as you show consistent improvement/understanding throughout the quarter you will get an A in the class. She's also very sweet and funny, I can't reccommend her enough!
I sign up for this class because I didn't know what else to take but I am happy I enrolled into this class. The class is SO EASY. The class is broken down by class participation (30%), weekly memos [basically a summary of the readings and how you've seen it connect to your life] (40%) and final [5-6pgs] (30%). Everything is posted online so you don't have to buy any books.
I took Money and Emotions seminar with Berend. She's cool, and classes were chill-once a week/3 hours. The workload is a pain though. Every week we had 60ish pages of dense theory, and then had to write a 3 page memo(upheld to high standards). And then there was a final paper 7-8pgs.
