He is a horrible professor. He doesn't know what is going on half the time and it takes him 25 minutes just to figure out how to plug in his computer and get class started. He teaches a math intensive course with computer slides (which aren't helpful when working out math problems) and glosses over them way to quickly for anyone to process what he is explaining. Only about 1/3 of the class attends and of that 1/3, half of them are asleep because mostly everyone has no idea what he is talking about. Do yourself a favor and don't take him.

Winter 2022 - I have nothing bad to say about Professor Cabric; she's an excellent lecturer and explains concepts fairly well. I'd be willing to take her again for future classes (pending TA situation). The TA though.... I know on Bruinwalk I shouldn't 't curse, but there's a phrase with word that starts with an "f" and ends with an "-uck him" that can only describe my feelings for this TA. I wont name his name, but everyone who took this class Winter 2022 knows who I am talking about. Unironically, because holy sh*t, the anal-ness of this TA is beyond describable, off the f***ing charts. Let me put this lightly, you are getting maybe like 25% of the amount of pent up frustration and contempt I had in dealing with this particular TA. I ain't no joker now, don't get it twisted, but holy f*** I went almost insane several times on the homeworks, which can only be described as hell. Pre-2022 tests are hard for Cabric, which were tough but fair. Our TA, on the other hand, had other ideas... lets just say, our exam medians were about 10-20 points lower than previous years. Lmao. This is because of how the class works; the TA is responsible for creating and grading all the homeworks and tests. In previous years, this wasn't a problem as most TAs I'd imagine aren't freaking psychotic masochists. Winter 2022 TA however was, making sure our life was a living hell. It got so bad even the professor had to step in in the later weeks to tell our TA, "bro, chill TF out!" Damage was done unfortunately with midterm and homework grades. I at least got the grade I desired. Others less fortunate than me don't have it so nice. All I can say is, whatever the hell you do, if you do not want years of life expectancy taken off, do not take this class if the TA's name fits the initials A.W. Maybe he is misunderstood and I'm being a harshass, but real talk, do you really want to care about whether his intentions are good or not when its 4 AM and you are still stuck on his damn homework from hell? Lmao.

Winter 2024 - Professor Fragouli is certainly one of the best professors I've had. I went from having little interest in this course and simply wanting to complete this requirement to having a genuine passion for it and being excited for 113. Her lectures are clear, with an emphasis on why certain definitions are as they are. She usually goes over a proof first, followed by a few examples. I will say, however, that the homeworks in this course are more difficult than the lecture examples, but that is where I recommend staying active on campuswire and attending office hours regularly. Her exams are roughly equal in difficulty to homework and discussion problems. There will almost always be one or two tricky problems, but they will never be unfair. This is where I recommend that you review your notes (lectures are recorded and uploaded as PDFs) and asking questions whenever you're stuck on something. Thank you to Semira, our TA this quarter, for her exceptional work and dedication to answering questions on campuswire. She was quick to respond and extremely helpful during office hours.

Spring 2020 - I took Kadambi in Spring 2020 so it was completely online. He was a really fun and nice professor and his annotated slides are really good. He follows the philosophy of offering hard classes with easier/relaxed grading. The homework was pretty hard and I spent multiple days on it every week. But the midterm and final were actually easier than the HWs (median for the midterm was 91.5). He made both the midterm and final 24 hours long before the quarter even started. He does this because he sympathizes with the difficulty of the UC system compared to private schools (he went to Berkeley for undergrad and MIT for his PhD). Overall, really fun and cool professor and I personally would take this class with Kadambi again if I had to!

Fall 2024 - Professor Kao was honestly a little overhyped. In terms of teaching it was pretty standard he would just go over proofs during lecture that often became math heavy. He seemed nice and considerate after our midterm with an average "lower than expected" and let us replace the midterm grade with our final. However, he only gave us false hope; the final was alot harder than the midterm with an average being around 20 percent lower. I felt like the question asked on the final were obscure and a little unfair given the last four years finals had similar format. Alot of the final also depended on thinking about a specific application that wasn't really emphasized. Also the grading rubric for the test was a bit questionable as it wanted us to solve the questions in a very specific way. Class was pretty interesting getting to learn about filters was pretty fun.

The only good thing about his class was that the materials can be easily understood through self study. His WeePar and book are your best friends if you plan on missing all the lecture/discussion and still get a good grade. His jokes aren't that funny or subtle, like some previous posters have suggested...
