Early Childhood Development
Description: Seminar, four hours. Development of positive social behaviors and their enhancement. Broad overview of children's psychological development, with emphasis on personal, social, and emotional attributes of preschool and elementary school child. Aspects of prosocial behavior and aggression. Enhancement of prosocial behavior and modification of such negative behaviors as aggression. Review and evaluation of contemporary educational programs for promoting positive social behaviors in elementary schools. Methodological aspects of child development. Overview of early childhood education and issues related to role of family, school, and television in child development. Letter grading.

Pam is fantastic!! I have never had a professor like her at UCLA!! She was a preschool teacher for 15 years and that has influenced her largely as a professor. She is caring, fun and wonderful overall!! Every student at UCLA should take this professor even if just for kicks. Although there are a lot of assignments, I'm happy to do them because they are interesting and fun. She trusts you with your grade and she wants to make sure that you succeed in her classes while learning stuff about education. I had heard that she was easy, but never did I imagine she would be this great! I'm a fan of Pam's!

Winter 2025 - I really enjoyed this course. I found many of the readings to be interesting and helpful for completing work in my other education courses. All of the assignments were manageable in my opinion and there was a lot of clarity. I felt like I could approach this professor for help if needed. Our final project was an essay and project but there was lots of flexibility and creativity was encouraged! This is a great class to explore some of your passions in education but also understand the developmental needs of many age groups! I would recommend taking a class with this professor!
