Winter 2016 - Professor Lewak is the best professor I have had at UCLA. She works really hard to create an engaging environment for her students. She does not just want to lecture the entire time, she wants students to discuss how they feel about the works. She is also humble enough to admit when a student brings up a point that she has never thought of, and is the first to admit when her students change the way she thinks about an author or piece of literature. She loves the Beat Generation and uses a combination of film, music, and projects to make the literature come alive. Take her with ANY of her classes and you will learn a lot (not to mention that as long as you pay attention and absorb ANYTHING you will get a good grade. She does not look for mastery of material when grading, she looks for progress).
