dr djedje is a very sweet woman, but i wouldn't take one of her classes again. it was ridiculously easy--i got an a+ and i barely did anything at all. i literally studied for the final an hour ahead of time and didnt do any of the readings. if you're looking for an easy a, she's the professor for you, but if you actually care about material, her class will be very disappointed. music of africa and the near east is really incredible but she made the subject so dry. all the material felt so outdated and removed---it was an entirely academic perspective, and a weak academic perspective at that, which is the worst of both worlds since there was no intellect and no engagement to the material. overall i was really disappointed that i didn't learn much of anything. she's really nice and means well, but as a teacher she's really not very good.

Easy, and pretty interesting. In my experience, the readings were not very good, and you didn't need to read them. Coming to class is good though, because he demonstrates most of the instruments. He's a really nice guy, and he wants you to be successful as well as interested in the music.
