Great class, great professor. Dr. Moreno teaches very well and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to take 31B. In the online setting he has live lectures but posts the recordings, he answers questions live and is very helpful and understanding. The course material can be difficult but nothing unmanageable, homework is luckily very short. The tests are harder than the homework problems but long as you study and understand the material, it's not too bad (half or more of the class usually gets a 90% or above). Granted, plenty of people taking this class have already learned this material from AP Calc BC which probably inflates grades but still, very manageable class thanks to Dr. Moreno's excellent teaching style and policies.
If you take 31b, take it with Adam!! He's super nice and funny and his lectures are very clear and understandable. His homework is light, most of it is practice/optional and only some of it is graded. If you can ace the midterm review worksheets, you'll ace the midterms easily. The final was a bit harder but overall he makes getting an A very doable. Adam is a 10/10!!
Moreno is a great professor. His lectures were very comprehensive and easy to understand, granted I did take Calc BC in high school. The two five question midterms were both pretty easy, and very similar to the homework (Homework is assigned once a week, only around 10 problems per assignment are required, the rest are very helpful for midterm/final review). The final was a 20 question cumulative multiple choice test. Moreno is an all around nice and funny guy, with luscious hair and an engaging voice. Would recommend and I wish I could take my future math classes with him.
Dr. Moreno is possibly the best math professor to help you learn 31B. He is clear, concise, and gives plenty of examples. He doesn't go off on tangents in lectures, but keeps the lecture engaging. He is also very helpful in office hours and really is invested in helping students succeed. His midterms and finals were pretty easy, but that was largely due to his excellent teaching style. Would recommend him to anyone.
Professor Moreno is, hands down, the best Math professor I have had in UCLA. Not only does his teaching style makes all the concepts extremely clear and easier to understand, but he is also a super nice and funny guy. His exams are all very fair and very, VERY similar to the practice problems that he gives before the exams, so if you want to do well, study the practice problems!!! His grading is similar to all the other math professors' - approx. 10% homework (lowest grade dropped), you can pick to drop one midterm if you do especially bad in one, etc.
I would absolutely, definitely, and 100% take his class for any other math classes that I would have to complete - personally, I've always had some trouble with Math, but Professor Moreno makes everything seems much easier to understand. Definitely recommend him as a Math professor!!!
Overall: Yes, take him.
I took the Math 31B 6-week Summer Session with Professor Moreno as my first course at UCLA. I was coming from only taking AP Calc AB in high school so most of the material was new to me. The material is pretty tough if it's completely new, but Professor Moreno makes the lessons very digestible. He shows a concern for actual learning of the material instead of just showing us how to do problems (although he does that too!). The exams were nice, as he gave us a 24 hour window to complete them. The final was easily the toughest exam. They were open-note, but some of the questions took time to think about (he couldn't just give us simple trig integrals or everyone would cheat on them lol). Homework was very doable (only about 20 questions were required each week, taking maybe 1-2 hours). Professor Moreno was very patient when answering questions, both during office hours and during lectures. This was a great first class at UCLA and I hope the other math professors approach classes and work as he did.
Moreno is an absolutely exceptional professor, and he made Math 31B the easiest class I took all quarter. He goes over concepts firsts before backing them up with a plethora of examples. His homework is due weekly and is largely limited to about 10 problems. Both midterms had problems straight off or similar to the practice midterms, and the final was a 20 question multiple choice final. Moreno was also quite funny and had a sociable personality, something which might be lacking in other Math professors. If you do end up taking him, ask him what shampoo he uses.
Moreno is such a great professor. His lectures are really engaging and he does a bunch of examples. The tests weren't that tough as long as you understood the material covered in class. He only assigns like 5 homework questions a week, but also has a lot more practice problems that you could do. 10/10 would recommend this class with Moreno.
This class was really great, and Moreno was an awesome teacher. I took this first quarter of my freshman year and was definitely a little nervous, but this class really was not as bad as I had expected. He is a really great teacher and was always there to answer questions if I needed him to. The grading was fair, and I learned a lot. If you have to take this class, I for sure recommend taking it with Moreno.
