Courey is a good professor and a very great person. You can tell he truly cares for the learning of his students. His lectures are mostly good but can get boring sometimes when he is doing a practice problem on the board. Clicker questions are super helpful. He holds review sessions and although they might seem slow, they're pretty good for content review before the tests. His online quizzes are super hard and annoying, but you do get two tries and you can work with other people. In class quizzes aren't bad and his tests aren't that difficult either. Lots of extra credit also so make sure to do those.
Courey was such a kind, sweet professor. When I took it, it was his first time teaching 14B, so there were definitely some struggles and bumpiness from this transition. However, Courey did a lot to offset these bumps along the way, and overall he just seemed like he wanted us to do well. Because he was so used to teaching upper division chem, I think there were times when he was just too smart for us, and he assumed we knew things we really didn't, so there were some classes where I felt like I didn't learn much. However, the exams, while tough, were dueable, and he gave a decent amount of opporutniies to raise your grade. Overall, a great guy and teacher.
Thermodynamics is just a hard subject, but Dr. Courey really focuses on the conceptual parts of chemistry which made this class really tough. The midterms and the final were pretty difficult, but he offers extra credit. There is clicker questions for this class though. Discussions were helpful because we got to go through practice worksheets in a group. However, this class is not an easy A.
Had a great time learning from Professor Courey. He is extremely knowledgeable and caring for students when they ask for help. Chem 14B was a lot of application with concepts from equations but an equation sheet was given so that was really helpful. Some of my funniest moments were his facial expressions when students answered or asked a good question. He looked like a proud father lol. Bunch of extra credit too which was super nice.
