Ako is a great guy overall, really liked him. Has a great sense of humor and his laugh is A+. Lectures are interesting bc he does a bunch of demos. Not a super big fan of how he often times writes the derivation of a formula on the board and it's just a lot of integrals and math that just gets overwhelming. I feel like we did not get through a lot of material just because of how many demos he does. Additionally, we would have a lot of break time (2 hr class) and he often ended class early (which was p cool). He taught 2 lectures this quarter and you could go to either one. The midterms were easy (+80% mean) because they were very similar to his previous ones, but the final was difficult (55% mean). Would recommend if you're willing to do work in your own time and want to have a fun af prof, but did not find class incredibly helpful.
Awesome professor. He makes his lectures very entertaining and informative. One of the few physics professors who actually supplements his lectures with lots of interesting experiments instead of just writing equations on the board. Also, before the midterm and final, he would review a practice test posted online.
Highly recommend this professor.
Phenomenal lecturer. Very captivating and organized. Lectures were a wonderful supplement to the material. The best way to learn is to go to the lectures and soak everything in and then to read the textbook. Sears and Zemansky's University Physics is actually pretty well written and not dry.
Midterm 2 was the easiest of all the exams (Gauss' law and all.) The final was very hard and had the lowest average.
Kusenko is a great teacher who really cares about how well his students learn. He goes through very well-organized and thorough examples in lecture and is an effective communicator. However, a lot of what he does in lectures are derivations to help you understand the concept, but very little of it is ever on any tests. I highly recommend him, but if you take him, listen to his lectures to understand the concept, but the only real way to prepare for his tests is to find practice problems on your own.
Professor Kusenko is by far one of the best professors in the department. His midterms and finals are completely open book and open note. He is willing to comprise with students on various issues related to the course. He is extremely nice and easily approachable. He makes lectures interesting and fun. His grading system is also very easy: splits the class into 3rds and and assigns A's, B's, and C's accordingly, you really have to try hard to not pass the class. Highly recommend this professor, if he is available, take him. All in all he is just a great guy.
Professor Kusenko is one of the best professors I've had so far. His lectures are well prepared and clear, making it very easy to follow along. He does a good job presenting the material and is very humorous. He supplements his lectures with very interesting demos, which are always fun. His exams were very straight forward and not too hard if you do the homework. He is a great professor and the class is worth it if he is teaching.
Kusenko is the man. My favorite professor from my career at UCLA by far. He's class is very enjoyable as far as electrostatics can be. He makes lectures funny, entertaining, and does plenty of demos. And his tests are relatively easy compared to what I've heard about physics 1B. Take him hes awesome.
HOW on Earth did Kusenko get such a low rating??? Before the class started, I looked at this page and thought I was going to get an easy A in physics. I didn't. This class was a lot harder than I expected, and I had already gotten a 5 on the AP Physics C Electricity and Magnetism exan.
The homework assignments are graded strictly. We have barely enough time to just finish our midterms. And the final was REALLY tricky!\\
Other than that, Kusenko is a pretty cool guy. He once cursed when he accidentally shocked himself...haha that was pretty funny. And the demos are cool too.
But I would not recommend Kusenko much.
