Your grade depends on your final.
To elaborate: you have weekly online and in-lab quizzes. I got 7/10 or 15/20 average on all my quizzes, which is pretty much straight C's. I got 100%s on my prelab and post labs, as well as the various assignments he gave out. He gives out 2-3 extra credit assignments, which are pretty much mandatory because of all the points you will lose from quizzes and lab reports. So once you finish all those, the class is pretty much as the same average score and your grade depends on the final (there is no midterm!).

If you get below a 50% on the final, he will fail you. The average was like a 130/200 for the final. His grading curve is already predetermined (for ex, if you get 500 points out of 600, you are guaranteed an A, etc) but has some wiggle room depending on the final average score.

He's a decent teacher but I still prefer Pang over him. Do the book of final exams he gives you early to know how unprepared you are for his exams, and then study based off of what you need to know.

watch out for the weekly online quizzes. prelabs and postlabs are a drag. you will also get miserably low yields (weigh your crude product before you do any recrystallization or purification) you will understand what im saying when you take the class. Also the final is based off of the final exam booklet that comes with the readers for the class. so do the final exam booklet. The final is a very big part of the grade. Selling lab reports from winter 2013 and all associated materials. *************
