Professor Ankowski is fantastic! Not going to lie, I was hesitant about taking a language development class and was convinced it would be boring and completely unrelatable. Well, I judged way too soon - this was one of my favorite classes I have ever taken in my life. Ankowski makes lectures so engaging and made an 8am worth waking up for. I didn't miss one lecture, simply because I loved listening to her speak so much.

Lectures were easy but the exams were SUPER HARD.

Professor Ankowski is a really good lecturer! She is very passionate about the course content and she uses great examples, especially from her personal life, to illustrate the concepts of the course. This class just consists of two lectures each week, where you simply go into the lecture hall and listen to her speak. She will typically ask questions to start a discussion about whatever concept you’re talking about in lecture, but participation is not mandatory. Your grade is based off of two non-cumulative exams, and eight homework assignments. The exams are 50 multiple choice questions, and do contain a good amount of questions related to content discussed solely in the textbook, so it would be beneficial to at the very least skim through the book and make note of key terms. The homework assignments seem to be graded really easily, they are only 8 points, and just involve writing a 350-450 word response to an assigned prompt, some of which are really interesting, like “what lessons would you teach to parents and teachers about language development?”. Extra credit is offered: you can earn points by participating in up to two SONA studies and by submitting all of your homework assignments. Overall, I really enjoyed this class, and as someone who hated kids, this class really makes you see how intelligent they really are, even from utero, and it really illuminates how cool language development is for them.

This class was very fun to learn and professor was great. There are two exams, final is not cumulative (each 100 points). There is also hw about every other week, totaling 6 for the quarter (8 per hw totaling 48, plus 2 extra if every hw is completed). Highly recommend!

Ankowski is great! Her classes do not fill quickly because she usually teaches 8AMs - I took 133C and 133B with her and got As in both with minimal effort. She's very engaging and loves to talk to students/give advice. If I could take the rest of my major classes with her, I would.

I enjoyed this class more than I thought I would. I expected Language Development to be a somewhat dry or boring topic, but Professor Ankowski made it interesting and applicable to real life. The class consisted of two non-cumulative exams (no final) and 6 short papers (350-450 words). Extra credit was given for participating in psychology studies. No participation or attendance grades. The exams were all multiple-choice questions and I found them to be straight-forward and easy, if you studied. She asks some questions on material that is in the textbook but not covered in lectures, so reading the textbook before exams is necessary to get those questions correct. The short papers were also pretty easy - they usually asked you to reflect on or connect concepts from the textbook to your own life. I would definitely recommend this class and this professor.

Dr. Ankowski's class is awesome. Her class was so worth getting up extremely early for. Not only is she an excellent lecturer but her slides are awesome too. I like the fact that she posts them ahead of time so we could writes notes on them or follow her clearly during lecture. The book she chose is pretty straight forward. Her system of grading is fair and she allows for 4 extra credits if you volunteer for psych lab which was a huge help in the end! This class is one of the very few classes I was sad had to come to an end! She passionate about the subject and it overflows to her students!

I looooovvvveee Professor Ankowski. She is so passionate, knowledgeable, and made an already super interesting topic even more interesting. Work load wise, I'd say this class doesn't require too much effort. There are 6 8-point homework assignments that are pretty easy, I got an 8/8 on most of them with little effort. The tests are sorta challenging, I got a 90 on both and I didn't read the textbook. I feel like if I had read it I probably could have done better, but I didn't have time. If you know the definitions/experiments from lecture well you will do well in this course. I made quizlets and that's all I did to study and it worked out pretty well. Overall, TAKE THIS CLASS. She made me want to come to lecture... it was genuinely engaging and just a super enjoyable experience.

I’ve taken Ankowski before for 130, so I was pretty familiar with her teaching style. What I would recommend for the tests is READ THE TEXTBOOK. It goes into so much more intricate detail of what she goes over in class. It made a huge difference between the midterm and final for me. I didn’t read the text for the midterm and got a 74% but I read it for the final and got an 88%. I think that is proof of how useful the textbook is. The paper is also easy to write, just shoot over to the TAs office hours if you have any issues. The TA was very good at helping with the paper. Also, you get 4 points added to your final grade by doing SONA extra credit! That can make a huge difference. Class isn’t too bad at all. Like I said, read the textbook and you will be fine!

You don't necessarily need the book for this class. She has about 3-4 questions about it on the exam, but you can pretty much just download the online version and skim through the chapters. The exam is mostly lectured based. You will not pass if you don't attend the lectures because she goes into depth about the things on her slides.

Just try to write down everything she says and study the Powerpoints. Not too bad!
