Fall 2025 - Pros: 1. Class material is really interesting and i absolutely will take it again to learn about circuits. Cons: 1. You won't be given any lecture notes, slides, recordings, so if you miss too bad you just failed your exam unless you have friends or TA gave you his notes. 2. No partial credit on exams. Holy cooked with this one, You just miss-wrote r1 instead of r2 in just one part of one question? Too bad that's a 0, and you just missed you chance of getting A. 3. Book will not be followed. 4. Exam curve is not good and don't think he cares even if the median person fails the class. 5. You have trouble focusing in class or habit of zoning out? Just give up and change your major focus or take this class with someone else. 6. This will, believe me no matter how good you are, demolish your GPA or if you are smart enough to get an A you probably have a 4.0 already so no changes. 7. If you get a seat anywhere near the back area, your only hope is taking pictures of the blackboard to look at later. Also wanted to add the TA we had was really nice and professor lectures are good. Although not good enough to justify his class structure.

When I first read the comments about Professor Abidi's lectures, I thought this was another case of the class pet defending a horrible lecturer who only they could learn from. You know, those lecturers who try to hide the fact they can't teach by making you feel like they're 100 times smarter than you and you're just too stupid to get it. But I was wrong. His lectures ARE excellent and I honestly think it would have been a great tragedy had I not taken this course with Professor Abidi. I have gained more understanding of circuits and EE in this one course than I have in all three years at UCLA combined. I don't care how harsh his grading is, it was totally worth it. I have also found the claims about him being arrogant to be entirely untrue. Maybe people just get that impression from his accent. In reality, this is a man who honestly cares about whether his students learn something or not, and I never once found him unapproachable. If you want to understand what it is you've been doing for the past few years at UCLA, take him!

Well, well. Abidi lives on. I took his electronics class 25 years ago, and amazingly got an A. This is in the bad old days when there were many classes in college that, if no one was good enough, well, no A's would be given. I was impressed with how he worked through his lectures and - sorry to say - his fame in the field. It's useful to see him go through an electronics circuit. However, getting to know him personally, I found the man spiteful, dark and evil to a degree. He simply hates students bar the obsequious, and I wager that extends to humanity beyond. What does that have to do with a review of teaching, you would ask? Here's the deal. The guy so turned me off, and everyone else in his lab like him, that I completely shut off on electronics and changed careers. No loss to myself or humanity; still made the mills and had a royal time at it, in a different arena than electronics. You can mercifully learn anything you want today on youtube without enduring characters like this bizarre man. Get away from cases like his. There are a hundred better lecturers out there accessible with a swipe of a smartphone that will inspire you and hand you their many gifts. This one has a few, but they come laced with the poison of a contrived, self-aggrandizing being full of himself, and full of, yup, you guessed it, a pile of that cow stuff.

Fall 2021 - There is a huge gap in evaluations of Prof. Abidi. Some students blame him for his harsh grading and tough teaching, but other students admire him for what they learned from his lectures. For circuit designers, his lecture is a real feast. To follow his lecture you need a strong fundamental, so it forces you to review all the material of the undergraduate study. The way he analyzes circuits is brilliant, intuitive, and insightful. If you want to be a good analog design engineer, don't waste any minute in his lectures and really understand every word of the lecture notes. As long as you work hard on this class, the technical interview for an internship would be very easy. Forget about grading when you take this class, you will soon forget its grade after graduation, but it will benefit you for a long time.
