Uggghhhh.... I could not have been more enthusiastic about taking Professor Foote's Children's Lit class, and I couldn't have been more disappointed. She had way too many books to move through, and therefore it was nearly impossible to go into any in-depth analysis on the works. Student discussion drove the class, which at times is nice, but she NEVER seemed to lecture! I felt like I was sitting there for two hours listening to other people's arbitrary opinions. The focus of the class seemed to be on children's literacy, as opposed to the deeper theories and themes that are involved in the writing of children's literature. She was an incredibly sweet, enthusiastic person-- occasionally a little snobby-- but her heart was in the right place. I hope that over the next few years she can refine the class to make it more focused.
