Winter 2025 - If you have no knowledge of religion (which I did not) I would make sure you understand the amount of work you are getting into when taking this class. You truly do learn a lot about all 3 religions which requires reading and lots of memorization. Not the easiest GE but the professor is nice and has office hours you can attend. Interesting concepts but slides were sometimes boring and in trying to have a "discussion based class" it often ended up with tangents answering religious students very complex questions that had nothing to do with the concepts and were not understandable for other students. Attendance is randomly taken like three times throughout the quarter and she posts very helpful study guides for each exam that truly have everything you need to know on them. Consists of 2 exams and a final paper where you choose one of around 3 topics. Overall take the class if you have an interest and are not afraid of reading, but keep in mind it is definitely not the easiest GE out there.

I actually took religion/Jewish Studies M10 with her which isn't listed. very easy GE especially if you already have a good understanding of the old testament. Class is basically straight up memorization and should be renamed to the history of the Jewish people. The class was also based on the TA's with them being the graders of the 2 essays, midterm, and final and they even wrote the midterm and final. I had a really good TA who gave us great study guides, told us the format of the tests, held study sessions, and told us exactly what to study. She wanted tests to be harder but thank goodness TA's were the ones in charge and kept tests as simple as possible. She assigned a ton of reading which I did basically none except for the story one of the essays were based on. Listening to lectures but especially discussions are all you really need to do. Take it for an easy GE

Winter 2025 - this class FUCKING CHANGED MY LIFE. I cannot emphasize ENOUGH how incredible this class is and how amazing Prof. Bakhos is. Yes, the readings are a lot, but you're still able to participate in meaningful conversations even if you didn't do all of them. I love this professor so much, she is also great at giving life advice so I def recommend attending her office hours.
