Disagree with "cannot learn anything"

The notes and textbook are pretty clear. By reading the notes and textbook, you can understand the concept fairly well.

WANG IS THE GOAT. PERIOD.

While she is a bit hard to understand, considering she has a pretty heavy accent and goes a bit fast through the material, her tests are the easiest tests I have ever taken, no exaggeration. To put this into context, there are two midterms and a final, and I did not get a single point off for all three of those tests. To study for these tests, I just did a bunch of textbook problems corresponding to each of the topics that she went through throughout the course. I highly recommend taking 33B with Wang, as it WILL be one of the easiest (math) classes you will take in undergrad.

Tldr: easy class, bad professor.

Professor Wang's lectures literally consist of her reading to the class off of lecture notes that are posted online. She does a bad job of teaching the intuition behind the topics and making the class engaging whatsoever. If it weren't for the fact that Wang makes the homework, midterms, and final all fairly easy this would be a horrible class. If you don't care about having a good understanding and intuition on the topics then take this class. Generally, in my experience, the math department has a high caliber of teachers: Morris-Wright, Harrop Griffiths, Ramsey, are all great teachers who explain things clearly, but Wang is not one of those.

Easiest math class I have taken at UCLA. Professor Wang is not a very charismatic lecturer. I never went to lectures and instead just followed along with her notes. Homeworks are very short and not terribly challenging. Weekly quizzes on Gradescope used the same questions as previous quarters of 33B. I can't say I learned the material super in depth, but it was an easy A

Name matches, but this professor was female so the pic I believe is wrong. Has a bit of a Chinese accent, but still fairly intelligible. This course was online.

Overall, quite easy. All midterms/finals were take home, and two lowest quiz and homework grades (each) were dropped. If you go to lectures, do the homework, and study a bit an A should be no problem.

However, sometimes it feels like too much material is being cut out and Professor Wang rarely gives the intuition behind concepts. It's mostly surface level plug and chug, much like high school. Also the HWs are super short, like 4 problems. The weekly quizzes are longer.

Take Professor Wang if you want an easy course and don't mind not learning very deeply.

In short, Professor Wang does not seem qualified to teach.

She literally just copies down the lecture notes, sometimes inaccurately, left behind by Professor Allen Gehret. Although I attended every lecture, students are likely to learn more just by reading Gehret's lecture notes that are posted to the CCLE page.

She also copies and pastes Gehret's homework problems from previous quarters for homework and discussion worksheets. These assignments are extremely short and on the verge of being trivially easy.

We spent around 6 lectures across the whole quarter reviewing linear algebra. That is 2 whole weeks of lectures. I think this fact speaks for itself.

She has a hard time communicating in English, especially in writing. Although I understood her well, this may be a setback for some students. Perhaps her struggles in communicating are the reason why she relies so much on Gehret's material.

The exams are offensively easy. There is no reason why you shouldn't get an A in this class.

I took her for both MATH 33A and 33B and I'd sum up her class as this:

- if you wanna get an easy A and don't mind a bit of self-studying, take her. her homework and quizzes are literally textbook questions, and you can honestly double check answers with an online linear algebra calculator. I completed most homeworks in <1 hour.

- if you actually want to learn linear algebra, don't take her. there's literally 0 benefit of attending class. she sucks at answering questions, just writes down a bunch of irrelevant theorems during class, and doesn't really explain much of how to answer textbook questions. she posts notes (from a different professor) on her class website, just go over that and you'll be good to go.

That being said, as someone who isn't a hardcore CS or engineering major, this class was definitely more difficult than expected simply because the only math classes I had taken before were the LS 30 series and AP Calc from high school... so while the other reviews say this class is crazy easy, it's only crazy easy if you have a solid math background, beware! Still doable though as long as you put in some effort!

This class is very well organized and the notes Professor Wang provides are a super helpful outline of all the material basically explaining every possible case with any given problem. This class is very straight forward and it was very clear what was expected from students. Professor Wang was very knowledgable about material and definitely made it easy to succeed in the class.
