text ********** for my venmo and i'll share it!
oh courtney. as others have said she treats and speaks to the class like elementary students and it personally irked me but other people loved her! for the midterm and final i made quizlet notecards of literally every sentence on the slides and memorized them and i think thats what got me an A!
Professor Clark's main area of study is improving the proficiency of learning. It is clear that she is studying children because she talks to the class like they are 8 year olds. She uses the work "nosh" to describe eating ?
This is not to say I did not enjoy her lectures, I often sat in the front row for lectures. She also tries to make tests "easier" or maybe fun to do, and I found that this actually can make it more difficult. She would relate synapses to a phone charging cord as an example.
This class is not hard, it can get confusing sometimes but Clark has good intentions for everyone in the class. The final was kinda hard
This class wasn't my absolute favorite but also not the worse. Professor Clark is sweet, funny, and explains things well.
More about the class:
-Lectures are Bruincast
-Discussion section attendance is mandatory - there are weekly assignments there
-Participation matters, you'll need an iclicker
-Exams are multiple-choice/short answer
-The final is CUMULATIVE so tons of material - do not cram for it
-The exams are not that easy, so look at the slides, listen to lectures, and review a lot (know the concepts inside out)
-There are weekly writing assignments (around 1 page each)
-There is a midterm, cumulative final exam, and final paper (5 pages, not super easy)
I'm just being transparent because there were no reviews about this class with Clark.
It is interesting, lectures are engaging but in all honesty, be prepared to put the work in. Do the extra credit, attend class, attend section, get full credit on the weekly assignments (they're not too bad)... everything you can to get points so that you have some wiggle room for the exams and paper.
Good luck!
I was really interested in the content, but honestly this class felt more like a job. However, I think this was the case just because it was online. I wish I got to take this class in person because it is definitely one that is harder to learn online. All quizzes and tests were open-note and there were a lot of extra assignments each week, but nothing ever too heavy. The lectures were by far the toughest part of this course. Professor Clark is very nice and accommodating, but often talks down to us as if we are small kids.
I really enjoyed this class! Clark was always very bubbly and her lectures were always so interesting and fun. The tests are not too hard, just as long as you can apply knowledge of the material to real life situations. She gives little homework, just occasional lab reports and quizzes on CCLE. The one thing that I didn't like about the class was the fact that we had to work in lab groups a few times. That might just be a personal thing though since I prefer to work alone unless I know the people I'm working with, but if you don't enjoy group work then that might be annoying for you too. Also, be prepared for people not paying attention and asking the same question five different ways either in class or on Piazza, but these grievances have nothing to do with the class or Clark, but rather with the people who were in Psych 10. Other than that though, the class was pretty low stress and I'd highly recommend taking it.
I’m selling my notes for $20. **********.
I took Psych 10 for no reason other than it's interesting to me and I wanted to learn more. This class was great to fulfill that purpose! Prof Clark is sweet and engaging, and often incorporates videos into her slides to illustrate the concepts. I looked forward to going every week.
Labs are also part of this class, and happen during the lecture. You could take it with friends but it honestly doesn't matter. I probably spent like 1-2 hours max outside of lecture working on this class. Slides are posted and are really all you need to know for the midterm/final. (Final became optional because of corona, so I didn't take it anyway).
Overall if you're interested in the topic I would recommend it!
First of all - don't waste your time reading the textbook, Clark covers everything you need to know for exams. Honestly my main complaint about the class is that 2 hours is way too long for this lecture, but Professor Clark did a really good job keeping the class engaging. As a person, she's incredibly sweet, before class always mingling and trying to get to know students, you can easily see she really cares about what she's doing. It is true she can sometimes speak to you like you're 5, but I'd rather have that than her talk to us like we're PHD students in an intro to psych course. You have to attend class because of clicker points but you get 3 free skips which is nice. Labs are SO straightforward as long as you pay attention and ask questions you should get an 100 on every single one. Biggest pain in the ass about this class is the 6 hours of research you have to participate in but whatever. Personally, I'm not overly interested in psych but I still had a good time. Glad I had a friend for my lab group, made it much more fun. TAs are helpful at review sessions and such, but no discussion which is also nice.
