This was an interesting class and Professor Clark is so sweet. She's really quirky and passionate about psychology. The midterm and final were harder than I expected, but I started studying really late. She gives great advice and helpful tips throughout the course, and if you follow her advice, it's easy to get an A. Labs are usually group projects, so make sure you find a good group the first few classes because you stay with the same group throughout the course. There are online quizzes once in a while, but they're worth 5% and pretty easy if you pay attention in class. The grade is based off of clicker participation (5%), quizzes (5%), the midterm (35%) , final (35%), labs(10%), and a final lab report (10%). There's also no discussion for this class, which is nice, but the class itself is a 2 hour long class. Overall, a great class and a great professor to take it with!
Take PSYCH10 with Prof. Clark!!
I don't understand why some of the reviews here are so horrible. Professor Clark is very kind and engaging. She always tries to make her class interesting and she would try to make jokes every once in a while. Although some of the jokes did not land, I appreciate her effort.
Yes, she does shush people when they are talking really loud in class. But, what do you expect? You go to class to learn about the materials, not learn about your classmate's personal problems. If you get shushed, it just means you're being disrespectful to the other students who are trying to learn.
Her workload really isn't heavy at all. She gives us a proper time length to complete quizzes, and labs. And she also told us in the beginning of the class that "you should read the textbook because i will take materials from there" but honestly just go through her slides and you'll be fine. She takes most of the materials for the exams from her slides anyway.
so yes!! take her!!! u won't regret it
If you want a quarter full of poorly worded questions and ambiguous multiple choice questions/answers, then take Courtney Clark’s class. The information in this class is straightforward and if memorized, you could probably redo all of her lectures yourself. Does this mean you’ll do well on tests? Nope. You could know the smallest details of each topic covered and still do horribly because you cant figure out what on earth she is asking or how to answer it. Unfortunately, this class is an intro class so it comes across as easy and is actually required for a few majors, but if I had the choice not to take this, I wouldn’t.
Dr. Clark is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, but she can get VERY confusing as a professor. The content covered in lectures and on the online practice quizzes is very different than the content on the midterm and final. She also doesn't take questions during the midterm and final, so you have to write whatever questions you have on the back of the test and she says she'll go over them (she doesn't). Also, she assigns a group lab at the beginning of the quarter and make sure you choose a good group, bc that will be your group for the final lab project at the end of the quarter. Overall, she is a nice person, but not a very organized teacher
The class was very interesting and also very easy. Courtney is really approachable and always willing to answer any questions you may have. The slides are posted and the exams questions come from information straight from the slides, so the textbook is unnecessary. Overall, a fun and chill class.
Psych 10 has the potential to be very interesting. Although just an introductory class, we discuss many interesting studies and concepts. However, Professor Clark addresses the class as though we are kindergarten students, and, despite this, makes exams confusing and complicated. This class is okay when watched at 2x speed on Bruincast, but clicker questions and lab assignments make that impossible most of the time. She constantly defends psychology as a science as if we are fighting her on it.
It's a fine class, and it's easy if you half pay attention, but it's terribly boring and not really worth taking.
If you took AP Psych this class should literally be a review, but to new comers its actually a fun class and you go over many different interesting topics. I thought Professor Clark was a great teacher, not sure why others are saying otherwise. She talks to you as if you're a child BUT it helps make things more clear and easy to understand. There is only one midterm and one final. Her tests didn't seem that hard as long as you know terminology and can give examples of them. There were questions that could go many ways, but the tests overall were not horrible and very doable. Just reread the question.
Remember to study labs for the exams!
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK!! You never use it and I found it online.
I liked Courtney. She talked to you like you were 10 years old but she was easy to understand, and if you payed attention at all in lecture, you were good for the midterm and final. She grabs questions specific to lecture and the labs, but since its bruincasted, you dont need to pay full attention. her clicker questions are easy and mostly opinion. the only that was a pain were the group labs, especially if you got stuck with a bad lab group, but they didn't really determine your grade it was just a waste of time. the class in incredibly easy if you put in a little effort and pay attention
Professor Clark's class was a really interesting intro to psychology. The class is really interesting and done asynchronously so there's a lot of flexibility. The midterm/final have a lot of info, but are overall pretty manageable. Sometimes a lot of individual due dates pile up, but it is never difficult work. Definitely recommend this professor to anyone in psych.
