This class was honestly a bit much especially considering that it is a GE. I don't know if the professor didn't like how his class was marketed on bruinwalk as an easy A, but essentially our grade was based on participation and attendance in discussion section, and 4 assignments written on paper that we had to complete in section under timed conditions. I wasn't expecting to be stressed out about this class but I was because he is very specific with what he wants for the written assignments and if you're too vague you will not do well. I got full score on everything which is 100% but was given an A instead of an A+ which isn't that big of a deal but it's definitely a bit odd. Lecture attendance isn't mandatory but he likes going around the class and asking us what we see when looking at photos of art. Not the worst class but I wouldn't take it again considering how much I was stressing over a GE that was supposed to be an easier A. I think I just got luckier with my TA.
The lectures were very hard to sit through sometimes. Super interesting content with engaging and helpful TA sections. The professor would stop every 10 seconds to think of a big word to use. 3 big essays and a short answer section final. Loved my TA Maya.
This class was pretty stress-free. It composed of participation and three papers. There was no formal final exam; it was a written response in section (50 minutes) of week 9. I think the professor was funny and down-to-earth. My TA was great, and I ended with a very comfortable A+ without having to freak out week 10. I highly recommend this class, even if you aren't super into art history because it was an easy GE.
I wasn't too interested going into the class, and while the professor's slides were sometimes boring, I don't regret taking this class at all. It was interesting to learn about different artifacts and styles that belong to various cultures (much of this information I still remember one quarter later). There were 3 (I think) essays, with each one being weighted more than the previous one(s), but if you have a nice TA like I did, you should be alright. Make sure to communicate with your TA since they will be grading your essays and therefore determine your grade in the class!
