McDevitt is very organized and straightforward during the lecture. He explains things well - but you cannot miss a single class, you won't catch up. No transparencies, no stupid and ineffective LCD projector presentations instead of lectures - he just writes out everything on the board for you, clearly explaining every step.
Exams are quite challenging, but the curve is incredibly generous. Make sure to go through all study questions at least twice! Don't bother to even buy the book - it is absolutely useless, he never refers to it, I got an A without opening it once.
Overall - highly recommended. He's a great professor, if you invest some time (start preparing at least a week before the exam to be able to come to his office hours!), you will get an A.
I had a great TA - Seda Ertac - take her if you can.

Great professor! his lecture is really organized and as long as you attend class regularly, take note, and do the study questios, it will be fairly easy to get a good grade.

His lectures are really good. His tests are insanely difficult. It's basically all or nothing on the tests. There is little partial credit.

A very straight forward prof. Exams are 90% similar to the study questions. No need to buy the textbook at all. His lecture notes from the bookstore are really essential though. The curves for the exams are really generous. I"ll definitely take him again for another class.

I basically hated econ 11 and I would say a lot of that had to do with Professor McDevitt. His lectures are incredibly boring and he drones on and on in a horrible monotone pausing only to crack the occassional (and I mean VERY occassional) dull joke. He's condescending and lectures in a way that seems like he's saying "duh?! isn't it obvious?!" His tests are hard and the multiple choice questions will screw you every time. I don't think you should put off taking the class if he's the only one teaching it, but I wouldn't recommend him.

He's a good teacher, I'd recommend him. His exams are predicable yet still challenging. Don't bother reading the required text, just know the notes and be able to do his review sheets in your sleep.
