There are three exams and one assignment for this class, and the assignments are extensive. Don't really understand the grade distribution for this class, one point is 1% without any CURVE or EXTRA CREDIT. Do not recommend this class. Her previous high scores were because there were only quizzes, no exams, and the quizzes could be completed online, which was relatively good for getting points.
Overrated and very mid class. The other reviews made it seem super easy, but averages aren't great - 21.74/25, 18.26/25 and 20.95/25 for each exam (no curve applied). Your grade is dependent on the cash flow assignment and the three exams, which is annoying because one mistake brings you down a lot of points. You can get away with not going to a single class because everything except exams are online, but you do need to know the material well in order to not make mistakes.
the content of this class is relatively easy to grasp. there are 3 exams and one project, each worth 25% and all are non-cumulative. each test is 25 questions with 45 minutes to complete which gives you very little room for error. in the middle of the course woo changed what is written in her syllabus about her testing method from all multiple choice to mostly free response because i think she's tired of being the "easy teacher." while already hard to get a decent grade answering 25 questions in 45 minutes with each question being 1 point each, making it free response with no partial credit while most of the answers involve calculations (and many questions that build off of eachother) unfortunately led me to my B+. her lectures are posted online so class isn’t required, although they don’t always match exactly what she writes in lecture. notes are fill in the blank style. the material itself is not difficult to understand but her class would be better if she reassessed her exams and lectured like a college professor and not an elementary school teacher.
Professor Woo is very knowledgeable about accounting and her notes are very clear. I would say that the material is still challenging and we moved quickly through the chapters. I recommend doing all of the practice problems she assigns to get fully understand the material and make sure you understand everything in her notes because she tests on stuff that you might not think is that important. Also, her exams are pretty difficult; there's multiple choice, short FRQ, and long FRQ except there is no partial credit given so make sure you study for the exams. Her grading scheme is: 10% super easy assignment (takes less than 10 minutes), 10% quiz on mgmt 1A and 1B, 35% midterm, 45% final (non-cumulative). She also gives 2% extra credit for submitting the course evaluation and extra credit on the final. Our class average on the midterm and final were 60% so she ended up curving the class a lot and made a 75% an A. Overall, the material is kind of challenging but good class.
This class has a reputation for being an easier management class... but if you want to enjoy your classes and/or have a Professor who cares about their students, do not take this class! It is a 100-point class with 3 midterms worth 25 points and one project worth 25.
The lectures are genuinely fill-in-the-blank and do not teach you at all. If accounting is up your alley, then you will be totally fine. However, for people who are trying it out, they only minimally help you understand the material. There also are often mathematical mistakes in the notes, so be careful. Professor Woo also talks to her students like they are babies, so lectures can be quite annoying.
The tests are around 25 questions and generally reflect textbook questions. However, the first Midterm is multiple-choice, but the second and third are open-ended, and you do not get credit for work. The average on Midterm 2 was 72%, and she only curved up by one point to 76%.
As for Professor Woo, she does not care about her students. She does not give extensions or extra credit - even if it is for an incredibly valid reason. The TAs are incredibly helpful and show more support than her. I heard multiple instances where TAs sympathized with students and tried to help but then had to go back on their word because Professor Woo did not care.
Professor Woo was pretty good and the class overall was relatively manageable. Most of the work that she says to do feels like busy work but make sure to stay on top of it because it's pretty much the only way to learn the material and do well on her tests. The grading scheme is a bit tough, as it was only the two midterms and the final that counted towards the grade, but they weren't too hard.
I have the textbook for this class for $5 if you need it text me **********
She's a great professor, the only challenge is the practice set and the lack of clarity in some aspects about it. Lectures are clear and though kinda dry, you don't feel like you're suffering through them. A digital version of the textbook is available, just email me at *************
I took this class mainly to see if accounting was for me -- it's definitely not. Despite that, I feel like I learned a lot about the basics of accounting which is useful regardless of what you plan to do in life. This class was difficult and there was a decent amount of work to keep up with. The tests weren't the worst in the world, but you HAVE to study for them because there are a lot of questions that rely on nitpicky accounting rules. When doing the practice set, make sure you go to every single one of her office hours because she goes over and answers tons of questions during those that will make your life a lot easier. I made mistakes on mine that I could've avoided had I gone to all the office hours. Professor Woo really does put in the effort to help her students, which I did appreciate. All in all, this class was STRESSFUL but teaches some important skills and for many people it's not optional, so take it with Woo if you can! **I'm selling the textbook for this course (retails for $133) in brand new condition! No marks or highlighting. Email ************* **
