He is a good professor. He knows what he is teaching, and is helpful in pointing out your errors. The way Rubinson teaches his class is horrendous in my opinion. He cusses in almost every session, and belittles your opinion if it contradicts his (liberal) ideals. Overall, you can learn a lot from Greg, but be wary in taking his class if your ideologies are more conservative.

Eng Comp 3; W2010

This is the first review I've written on Bruinwalk, and this professor is well worthy of it. I'm so glad I got Professor Rubinson as my English Comp 3 professor. He's awesome. Classes were actually interesting and engaging, a refreshing distinction from many of the other classes I've taken. He makes the material relatable and sometimes humorous, and most importantly, he actually gets the message across when trying to get through to you on how to become a good writer. His teaching methods are great in getting students to realize that good writing doesn't always mean following the rules/guidelines. And he's genuine concern for students' learning gives you that much more motivation to learn to write well. I learned a lot from him. He even recommended me for a job as a composition tutor the following summer! It really shows that he cares about his students beyond the scope of the class.

His class was horrible. He is such a biased professor. I really cannot believe that so many people wrote positive comments about him. First of all, he is rude and mean. I really cannot take a teacher seriously when they throw out so many F-bombs and curse words. It is so unprofessional. He wants people to participate, but when someone does, if he doesn't agree to it, then it is wrong. One time he started making fun of a student for one of his topics. He also literally tells his students that there papers are full of "shit", when he doesn't like them. He wants students topics to be on recent events. but sometime he wants them to be so recent, like events that occurred that very week.impossible! He acts so childish i cannot take it. These types of professors should not be teaching at UCLA. I hope one day people realize how rude, biased, inconsiderate, and vulgar this teacher is and get fired.

Overall the class was difficult. It is not one of those classes where the professor will give you an A just because you memorized something really well. This class requires you to hone in on your writing skills. This entails going through each of your drafts and re-writing it over and over again until you sweat blood.
I will be frank and admit that I am not that great of a writer, but Greg's class helped me become a decent one at that.
The readings are very interesting. When it comes to discussion be ready to state an opinion, but be ready for a rebuttal from Greg. He makes you realize the obvious. You cannot think on your own most of the time and you are oblivious to societal issues.
So he tries to kill two birds with one stone. Make you a better writer and become more aware of culture.
In the end after the hard work I was proud of my essays and my self esteem rose when it came to writing.
Be prepared to go to office hours, revise your paper at least five times, and sit at your computer trying to think of an idea for your essays.

Professor Rubinson is a good teacher. However, the quality of his lectures depends on his personal affairs. You can see sometimes he's really tired or exhausted and isn't really helpful. His class has a lot of material about politics, so for international students this can be a hard class. His grading is fair, basically if you do your work and really try to revise your paper you can get a good grade.

For Spring 2011, he assigned 4 blogs and 2 big essays. The workload is reasonable and some material is really interesting.

In general, he is a great person, and taking his class won't disappoint you unless you're an international student who knows nothing about American politics. Prepare yourself with political arguments about the readings to fully participate in his class. I like his personality but I didn't quite enjoy all his lectures. Maybe it's my own problem.

Honest, EC3 is one of the most useful classes you will ever take in college. Greg has done a wonderful job. He does not have many assignments and he helps you through each one. And you can basically write about anything you want as long as what you write is a social/cultural commentary. Writing something you really like makes writing fun. Greg's reading are very interesting and funny. Take him if you have the chance. Great guy, great class.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. Greg is a critical teacher and isn't afraid to give you his honest opinion. He isn't the most open teacher, but he's a busy guy, so you can't really blame him. I would definately take him again. A-

Greg is an excellent professor. Honestly, even though I am an English major already, he made me even more interested in writing. His class is humorous, engaging, and informative. If you still have to take English Comp 3, take Greg Rubinson! You won't regret it. 90% of my classmates are south campus majors and still love Greg. Just remember to SPEAK UP in class...he'll help you with your writing skills, but participating in class is really important.

Great professor. I learned quite a bit from him. He really tries to help his students and has conferences to talk about your papers. Really funny guy, too which is great since the material is based on comedy and satire! Take him if you get the chance.
