Hands down, best english teacher I've ever had. I've always disliked english, but the humor and satire topic really made everything interesting. His conferences are good but sometimes they're a little rushed, which is understandable, but he still gives you helpful feedback. Class is pretty entertaining, he definitely drops cuss words coming into the door first day. We watched movies, segments from Daily Show and Colbert Report, and discussed readings that weren't too much or too bad. Only had to do three papers, 1st and 2nd were kinda shorter, ~1200-1500 words and 3rd one was ~2000 and 4 minute presentation, which goes by a lot faster than it seems. Overall, for eng. comp 3 try and get Rubinson! He will really help your writing! Promise

Great professor. Funny, intelligent, helpful and passionate about his student's actually learning. His class is based on Comedy and Satire. I found it incredibly interesting and I found it a lot easier to write about something that I found interesting as opposed to having to write about like 13th century literature (no offense if thats what you like). 3 papers: two 5 page analysis papers (1500 words) and one 7-10 page research paper (approx 2000 words). You can basically write about whatever you like (i did family guy, judd apatow movies and "that's what she said" jokes). He gives great feedback in his conference sessions with you, even though they're rushed. For the final paper there's a presentation but its 4 minutes and you can use video clips. Do the readings and talk a lot in class. Participation is like 20% of your grade! Great professor, great guy. If you're interested in comedy and satire take Rubinson! If you have to take EngCOmp3, take Rubinson! As a result of his teaching, I have definitely become a better analytical writer and hopefully I got an A!

Greg is an awesome professor. My English Comp 3 class was based around the topic of Satire, so we analyzed South Park, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, The Onion, etc. Everyone had so much fun each day and I actually looked forward to each class.
He is one of those teachers who really care about how you perform in the class, and how your writing is improving overall. I was never afraid to talk to him about my writing and how I could improve. Take him if you can!

alright basically this is what it comes down to: the ability to write clearly and effectively is one of the most important abilities that anyone can possess. you can easily go out and find a less difficult professor and completely disregard effectiveness and a concern for student learning. but i promise you this, you'll regret it not only as you struggle in the class because you're disinterested, but also down the road because you will lack the fundamentals of writing.

Greg is a rare professor. he has the ability to keep you interested and teach you something along the way. all you have to do for homework is read articles and short stories and talk about them in class. there are only three graded papers that you have to turn in. they're not that long, and they're on interesting subjects. Greg really cares about your writing. show some type of interest in what you're doing and take pride in your assignments...look at the other reviews he's gotten. it's no coincidence that ALL of them are positive in every respect.

there. you've been given the knowledge. you know who to take for english. now go out and do it.

Greg is by far one of the best professors here at UCLA. He expects a lot from his students but he gives a lot back in return. He is somewhat generous with his grading because this was a beginning English comp class. Lecture material is always fun and interesting. His lecture style is very relaxed and casual. He treats his students as peers. Always willing to help his students improve, even made time for me during his lunch hour. His class give me back confidence in my writing. Given a lot of freedom with paper topics. A few words of advice: If you are writing a paper for his class, make sure you say something that others haven't said before. Paper topic is very important. If you haven't already done so, sign up for his class before it fills up. If you have to take english comp. 3, take it with Greg. You won't regret it.
