Winter 2019 - Does not curve class or tests or homework. This would be okay if he designed tests to match this with a distribution around an 80 , but he does not. the tests all had an average of around a 70-72. Okay so he doesn't curve any thing so the average in the class is now a C-. His solution to this is to prove "bonus points" which are 1 point a class rewarded to usually one person who raises their hand to answer his questions the fastest. Max bonus points you can get before a test is 5 so the average is now a C+. not much better. I scored above average on every test (both midterms and the final) and still received a C+ for my final grade. Ad before you think well it must have been the hw or attendance, I got all of those points too. Its the tests. His grading scheme doesn't make sense for the type of tests he likes to give which are tricky, non trivial questions for a really straightforward class like statics or dynamics, both of which he has taught. He refuses to fix this problem because his logic is that "we need to be challenged." Little does he know, apparently, but we take 3 other engineering classes a quarter that aren't 2 units and are actually applicable to our majors (excluding statics). So we are already challenged enough thank you very much. Don't need to stress over some high school physics course that we've learned 3 or 4 times already. His lectures are dry, the only reason one would need to attend is to get attendance credit and maybe a bonus point if you can pay attention to his slides (which often contain mistakes and unfinished examples) for long enough. He never works examples on the board so his slides skip crucial steps in his examples. and he just reads through the steps. He clearly didn't make the slides himself, he just uses some generic department slides. He attributes our previous knowledge of this course to how well he teaches, which led to him telling us not to evaluate him at the end of the quarter because he "doesn't think it would be useful" to him. He's a nice guy, but a stubborn and pretty below average professor. Could be a lot better for the ease of the class he is teaching. Good luck dealing with his annoying idiosyncrasies.
