FOR PSYCH 119Y: Dr. Wong is one of the nicest professors I've had, and presents his lecture topics clearly where he can keep your attention for most of the lecture (sometimes can seem really long, ~75 min). His tests are fair, testing on mostly lecture material with corresponding material from the book. He holds office hours regularly after the lecture where you can ask about course material or even just have a nice conversation, and has introduced me to a topic that you probably have not taken at UCLA before. Highly recommend taking him for this class, easy upper div for psychobio!
If you are interested about the study of brain damages and related effects, you will certainly learn a lot in the class. In every lecture, specially the ones after the midterm, you will learn at least something new. You need to attend classes because the professor gives out extra credit randomly in class-- once before and once after the midterm.
If you're taking this course as a GE, I wouldn't recommend it. Course material isn't easy (from a GE perspective), and because there is a single midterm with equal weight as the final (42.5%), every point has significant impact on your grade. However, the course has arguably a free 15% + 3% extra credit, you really need to work for only 85% with a buffer to 82%.
That said, if you want to take this class to learn something, I strongly recommend this class. The professor does want you to learn and the course material is quite intuitive. You won't require the book; you really only need to study the slides to do well. If you sit down to study the book, you'll waste a significant amount of energy, yet, will learn a lot in the material too. It's not worth the money though.
Professor was goated! Open note exams. Best thing I would suggest is to write down literally everything he says on top of the content loaded in the slides. Course Breakdown: 3 exams, each 25%, 15% for attendance (clicker) and 10% for study sets. The study sets were questions similar to the exams and gave some insight as to how the exams were set. They were 30 questions, 50 minutes based on about 6 lectures. It lowkey was a bit of a time crunch but if you took good notes and listened to lectures you will be okay. Professor Wong is the best! (and lowkey fine)
I loved this class! The most difficult module was with Dr. Wong; we were tested on parts of the brain and given a lab practical to test our knowledge of associated systems, functions, etc. I studied a lot for this module and made Anki cards, created a Goodnotes notebook with all the notes from class + extremely detailed pictures/labels from the past year's lab practical + study guides that my friends and I created. Since I put in so much work into the Anki deck and notes, I was able to score a high grade on the exam and ended with an A in the class. I'm selling this bundle for $20. Wong was a great lecturer and always ended class early (albeit it was because he spoke really fast). He explains content well and it is clear he loves the material he teaches. The content was interested, and exams were 30 question MCQ (3 exams, noncumulative). Light workload, but you have to study for exams since they make up the majority of your grade. Also, this professor lies on the liberal end of politics and its pretty clear through the way he teaches. His bias never caused a problem in terms of teaching clarity, but just mentioning it for those of you who want to know about style of teaching/ bias.
I am selling my notes for this class, contact me at ********** if interested.
I also sell notes for LS7C, LS7B, LS7A, Psych 118, Psych 115, Psych 110, Psych 120A, Psych 127A, and Psych 10.
This class was the best. Very straightforward and Professor Wong is really good at making things interesting and easy to understand. Selling the Psychology in Modules 11th edition for $50 or best offer. Text me at **********!!! Really useful for the class.
