He gives you a syllabus with assigned readings, there's not much to it. You can pull off not reading if you listen well in lecture, but word to the wise some test questions are from the reading (not a lot, but the points count). The tests were 50 multiple point questions which was very fair, and much appreciated. The TA's were really helpful when making the study guide, topics not in the study guide weren't on the test which made the midterm and final even more fair game. He also offers extra credit and makes witty jokes that I really appreciate. I liked the energy that Dr.Wong and his TA's Chelsea and Julia had, their youthfulness made them a bit easier to relate to. Definitely strengthened my interest in psychology, 10/10 would take it again. (:

I would highly recommend taking this class as an easy GE. Dr. Wong is a funny guy and really cares about his students learning and understanding the material. Overall the class was extremely easy. There's a midterm and final (not cumulative) each worth 42.5% of your grade. Both are straightforward and you can easily ace them if you memorize the study guide. The rest of your grade comes from weekly online homework assignments with 10 questions each, but you can get 5 right and still get full credit. There's also 2/3 extra credit opportunities as long as you go to class. The class is only curved to benefit students if it's curved at all. Overall the course was really interesting and Dr Wong is great!

Wong was a really good teacher, engaging lecturer and gave extra credit, only curves the class if it helps the majority. Held review sessions and generally was a cool guy. This class is all neuroscience though, don't take it if you don't like science or you're not trying to fulfill that Life Science GE. I got a B+ in the class cause I crammed and never went to lecture, but if you study right its a pretty easy class with not that much of a workload. I don't think the textbook is necessary

This class is a good GE if you're into memorization. His tests are all multiple choice and based entirely off of his lecture slides. There's a lot of information in each lecture, but he posts all of his slides online so if you skip class you can just find all the material there.
There's no discussion so it's a pretty low commitment class, you just need to be able to memorize information for the tests (and if you took AP Psych then you'll already have learned a lot of it).
Overall, not the best class I've taken at UCLA but interesting and not a bad GE to take.
Recommend if you've taken AP Psych and are good at straight memorization.

In terms of work, this class wasn't really bad at all. Reading from the textbook is not even a requirement to get an A, so long as you heavily review the topics in class before the tests. It's also helpful to get your 6 credits out of the way early in the quarter so you don't have to worry about them later. The median for the midterm was an 80, while the median for the final was an 88, since he gives a study guide for it and the second half has easier material (less brain structure stuff, which was what brought me down in the midterm). Also you have two extra credit opportunities for showing up (missed one) and another for lots of people filling eval's. Overall not a difficult class and it's mostly fun and engaging.

Great professor, though lectures could be a bit boring. Minimal work is required outside of class (just a few online quizzes on CCLE, and you only need to get a 50% to get full credit). Exams are fairly straightforward and Professor Wong is very generous with extra credit (go to class!), which is very useful in his straight-scale grading scheme. You do need to put in the effort to memorize the material to do well, though.

His midterms are much harder than you think you definitley need to study for them. Lectures are not that intersting but paying attention is much better than being totally underprepared for the tests.

Jared Wong is hilarious and he's very competent, diligent, and punctual with uploading notes, starting lectures, etc.

The class grade is composed of 42.5% midterm, 42.5% final, and 15% study questions.
He gives out extra credit up to 2%.

DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. ITS A SCAM.

I got a C- but that's because I was too pre-occupied with my boyfriend who goes to Santa Barbara.

Great professor for 116. This class is naturally a lot of work and the concepts can require a lot of memorization, but he communicates everything very clearly and effectively. The class is split into three modules: neuroanatomy, Swimmy (neuronal circuits), and visual neuroscience. Neuroanatomy was definitely the hardest and required solid understanding and identification of every brain structure. The other two modules are pretty easy and are graded on lab write-ups. Overall, highly recommend taking 116 with Wong.
