I have nothing against the teacher personally, but the class and the exam were extremely disappointing. The economics department did not properly set the content and difficulty of the course. It was impossible for us to finish the exam in two hours, even though he allowed us to use a calculator and open notes. I even think the course is designed to screw up students' GPAs and frustrate their academic motivation. I strongly recommend that schools reconsider how they set the difficulty of this course.

In addition, for Professor Rojas personally, I think his accent will affect the efficiency of students (but I am tolerant and understand about this). And his notes I think it would be better to use a well-implemented slide show. In addition, the exercises of the same difficulty should be used in the usual practice and exam. I can't stand the fact that the exam questions are harder than usual in practice. Because the confidence gained in practice will be completely destroyed in the exam. This is undoubtedly a serious setback to students' academic motivation.

I've heard from a lot of people that econ 11 was ridiculously hard, and while it was difficult, it truly wasn't that bad to take with Rojas. He's one of the better lecturers in the econ department and if you understand his examples you'll understand the tests. Also he's really nice about regrades and helping you if you fuck up on a midterm (which I did). Go to his office hours if you have questions, he explains things better there, which I think has to do with the fact that he gets nervous in front of big crowds. Can't stress enough that he's a nice guy and genuinely cares about students because that's a big plus in my book.

Rojas honestly is a pretty good professor, it’s just that the subject material is pretty difficult. The curve was more than generous with only a 40% to pass, he offered numerous office hours, always answered questions, and offered a 2hr review for the midterm and final. He also asked repeatedly for feedback and made sure that tests focused on Econ and not crazy math. I would definitely take him again!

I will try not to be biased here. But this class literally destroyed me. I’m not trying to brag or anything, but I thought I was pretty good at math until I took this class. I’ve always gotten an A in my math classes at UCLA. This class made me feel so stupid. I failed my midterm. I literally failed. But I thought this was from my lack of studying, so I studied for almost 7-8 hours everyday from the day I received my midterm grade until the day before our final exam. Like no joke, I studied everyday, even on the weekends, canceling all my plans. That’s how shocked I was at my midterm score. So by the time final exam came close, I thought I was prepared. Professor gave us practice sets and practice exams (which are all free response) to study for the final. So I studied those over and over again and got 90-95% when I tested myself with the practice test. I felt so confident in myself. However, the actual final exam was way too complicated and many people from the class including myself didn’t get to finish the exam. It had more questions than the practice test and way more difficult. I do not know my score yet, but from
reviewing the test afterwards, I’m assuming I got about 50%.
It felt like all of my hard work just blew away in two hours. The final exam destroyed me.
If you’re going to take this class, I recommend you take it only if you want to risk your GPA. Good luck.

P.S. Prof. is a really really nice guy as a person. No harsh feelings towards him at all.

He is a nice person. That doesn't change the fact that he was a terrible professor. He gave us two final practice exams even had extra office hours to go over it with us. Then on the final exam there was one question that was similar to it, and he had the audacity to tell us that the final exam was easier than the practice. It was far harder and longer. There was no way he could not have known that. Several of us in the class didn't even finish the final . He says there are four questions but if you take his class be prepared to have 4 a, b, c, d,......m and i'm not exaggerating either. So a four question exam is really 27 and each question has four steps within it. This class is known for being hard but it seemed like he was trying to purposely fail us. My gpa is without a doubt destroyed because of this course.

His lectures barely cover what is going to be on the midterm and final. He rushes through concepts and skips steps his answer keys have mistakes in them.
The tests were open book and open note but that made no difference If you need to take econ 11 avoid him like the plague, wait until a better professor can teach the course your gpa and mental health will thank you.

I am a transfer so this was my first class at UCLA and all I’ve heard was just how difficult this class is for people. I want to tell you that professor Rojas really made it so simple and clear for all of us. He WAS SO HELPFUL, such a nice guy. He would not move on to the next material until all of our questions were answered during class. All the practice sets given were not extremely tough but manageable. The midterm was literally so easy, copy and paste of the practice sets but I will say the final got me by surprise. He does offer practice exams for the midterm and then final and the final was NOTHING like the examples, at least half of it wasn’t. But honestly I would take him again if I could, he is very clear and during office hours will help you in every step to make sure you understand the material. If you are questioning on taking this class in the summer like I was, let me tell you, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Do it, he really is the best.

Would not recommend taking this class online. He was a nice professor and taught pretty well. However, the exams just seemed completely unreasonable and unfair. They were extremely difficult to finish in the amount of time given. The practice midterms and finals provided to us were from previous years and were much shorter than the exams we were given. The only curve that is implemented is based on your percentile in the class which is only relevant if it’s better than your exam scores. However, this curve is pointless when everyone is doing horrible on the exams as only then top ten percent would receive A’s. Overall, after taking the final, it feels like I wasted my A-sesh.

Not thrilled about this class, and wish I didn't take it in the summer. The Prof is nice but the exams are too long and too hard to be completed within 2 hours. I also wish he had typed notes as well because his handwritten notes are hard to read and reference.

Be prepared for a lot of math! The professor is REALLY nice (can’t stress it enough) and will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material.

The content is hard (as would be expected from an economics degree at UCLA), and I agree that the exams could have been shorter, but this man deserves a much higher rating than what he currently has. He even curved the class so a 40 was a C, which is as fair as you can get!

Some students got really annoyed at the fact that his practise final wasn’t exactly like the actual final… but why should a professor reveal what the final is going to have on it it makes no sense

If you’re ok with math and did well in math 31ab, I strongly recommend this class.

I am a transfer student and econ 11 was my first class and I am glad I took it with Professor Rojas. The midterm and final were difficult as there were a lot of questions to complete within the given time frame, but the professor gave a generous curve. Also, if you score higher in the final compared to your midterm, that would be your overall grade which was nice, since I did not do well in my midterm. Highly recommend going to his office hours as he will take the time to go through the practice problems. Since there are a lot of problems on the exam to complete within 2 hours, it's good to make sure you 100% understand how to do it because you won't have a lot of time to go through your notes to figure out how to solve it.
