Quarter: Fall 2016
Grade: A
June 5, 2017

It's pretty hard to fall asleep in Professor Cunningham's lectures since she projects her voice pretty loudly. It's really good to participate so that she knows your name, she does not get upset at silence, and your classmates know who your are, too. This class is specifically for transfers in the English major, so there are about 20 students, if that, in the class. At the end of the year we had a potluck.
I went to her office hours a handful of times and it's such a better option than emailing her or trying to ask questions in class. In class, she interrupts when students try to comment on a question she posed and does not always let them finish. She has her opinions and she knows what she dislikes; i.e., do not use absolutes in speech or writing. She'll make you a more conscious writer for sure.
There are weekly chapters due for reading, but they're honestly optional. Just read the headings. I think there was only one paper on Charles Dickens' Hard Times due at the end of the quarter. There are weekly writing exercises and you should definitely do those because they add up.
Overall it was a good class to take my first quarter at UCLA as transition into the quarter system. Counts for elective credit.
