Fall 2021 - Honestly, you can't ask more from Professor/Lecturer Lisovsky. Your final grade is based on 4 projects (3 essays, 1 video or 4 essays) and they aren't graded harshly at all + some hw on readings (1hr each). Even if you aren't happy with your grade, he gives you chances to REVISE/REDO essays and that will bump the grade up by 5-10% easily. PS: You can literally be 15 minutes late to his class and he will still welcome you to the class, no questions asked. ONE WORD: CHILL. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Fall 2024 - I absolutely love Professor Lisovsky—he’s truly the GOAT. I took EngComp 2 with him, and when I saw he was teaching EngComp 3 this quarter, I knew I had to take it with him, even though I wasn’t planning on taking EngComp 3 until later. He’s genuinely one of the kindest and most helpful professors I’ve ever had. His office hours are amazing—he really takes the time to help you and wants you to succeed. What I appreciate most about him is how much he encourages creativity and thinking outside the box. As an engineering major, I don’t always get to be creative with my assignments, but his class gives me that chance, and I’ve loved working on every project he’s assigned. I’ve learned so much this year, and I’m really grateful for it. That said, there are a couple of things I struggled with. Some parts of the class felt a bit boring at times because they’re so language and grammar-heavy. For me, it’s a lot of repetition since I learned these things back in high school. I also didn’t quite understand why the max score for essays is a 95—it honestly felt a little unfair, especially with how much effort I put into the assignments. I think it would be great to reward students who really push themselves to go above and beyond.

Professor Lisovsky is NOT concerned with student learning. His class is easy enough, but make sure you go to class because he bases SO MUCH of your grade on whether or not you're there. He doesn't really care whether or not you learned anything (even if you really did); it's basically a blow to his ego if you don't go to lecture. He imposes his knowledge on his students in a superior way and acts like he is an incredibly smart man, which he is not. He drones on about grammar, even though most of it is stuff we have learned when we were younger. Sometimes, it felt like we were in an elementary/middle school classroom instead of a college environment. In the beginning he may seem nice enough but he is definitely very arrogant. Lisovsky is probably the worst professor I've had at UCLA.
