Material and prof is pretty manageable, she's pretty good at explaining stuff and telling you what will be on the test. Homework questions are a good resource to review, and she makes an effort to host office hours before tests. The grading system is very rough (for most ppl the final ended up being 65% of the final grade) and no curve will be issued (she says curves are considered at the end of the quarter, but knowing the math department that will never happen), so be aware of that going in. Not the worst class ever but having such a high importance on tests for your grade is stressful.
I think Marsden was a very fair professor and the content was not too difficult. Some of the weeks were easier than others and I think she did a decently good job of teaching it. I would say that some of the homework questions just felt unecessary conceptual and difficult and I wish the homework was slightly more similar to the midterms. office hours helped. she recorded lectures which was nice but SHE DID NOT CURVE AT ALL. The grade was 3 midterms and a final and I got above the median/mean on everything. I even got an A on a midterm and a 100% on another midterm and I still got an A- and not an A because no curve. She was nice though.
take 33B with marsden if you can. she's funny, helpful, kind, and cares about her students' success. Homework was optional b/c of funding cuts to math department but problems on the homework appeared on the midterm and there were practice tests similar to the level of difficulty of the actual midterms and finals. Tests were stressful because they were 100% of the grade but that is not really marsden's fault. Also had recorded lectures and good lecture notes, attendance optional ofc. No curve and EC, but if you put in the effort it should be a fairly easy class.
Katie is a nice professor. She is helpful in clearing doubts. The class itself is a bit difficult (and this is considering the fact that I already studied about half of it in high school). Her tests however are a bit difficult and different from the textbook questions and the ones she gives in the homework. The only way is by attending every lecture and practicing different types of questions. Not just from the textbook, but search up online materials.
Very evident she cares about her students' success and learning. Plenty of practice problems, practice midterms, practice final. Very favorable grading scheme considering math department's budget problems. English Accent. Would recommend.
Professor Marsden is a great lecturer and is very knowledgeable about the material. Her lectures are fast-paced, but very organized and she posts notes from the classes which were easy to read to review. The exams were not necessarily easy, but there weren't any total curveball questions and she posted practice exams to prepare that were similar in format and difficulty.
This class isn't too hard if you're comfortable with derivatives and integrals, the questions are all computational and it mainly consists of learning a few strategies for solving different types of differential equations and applying them on the tests and homework. There are a couple smaller topics related to analysis of differential equations that can't be solved explicitly, but it wasn't a large focus of the class. There was little to no focus on proofs, especially in the homework and exam problems. Overall this class was a little challenging at times, but definitely manageable and I'd highly recommend taking it with Professor Marsden if you get the chance.
Simply an amazing class. Engaging and super helpful in the long run! Professor Marsden would check in with everyone during the class to make sure people followed, and the daily warmups were incredibly refreshing as well!
