Professor Hunter was very engaging and made the class very fun and interesting. His lectures were very clear and the lecture materials were very organized. It was also a great experience hearing from the guest speakers and learning from their life experiences. It was clear that professor Hunter puts a lot of his own personal time into developing M5 course materials and coordinating with these guest speakers, and I greatly respect and appreciate that.
The strengths are that Prof. Hunter really immerses every student into the Black Experience in a very interesting and spiritual way. A weakness I can think of is that the assignments were all stacked at the end of the quarter, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Overall, one of the best classes I have ever taken and the Prof. cares a lot about the class.
Professor Hunter is an exceptional instructor who genuinely cares about his students and their success. His commitment to teaching is evident in his engaging lectures, his willingness to answer questions, and even more. He is undoubtedly one of the best professors at UCLA, making this class a great experience for students. The course structure is thoughtfully designed, with a manageable workload consisting of two papers, a midterm, a final, and a multimedia project. This balance allows students to delve deeply into the material without feeling overwhelmed, making it an excellent choice for those interested in the subject.
One of the greatest strengths of this course is its engaging and creative approach to learning, particularly through the multimedia project. This unique assignment provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge in a practical and enjoyable way, catering to a range of learning styles. Additionally, the reasonable workload enables students to manage their time effectively, which is a significant advantage compared to other courses. Professor Hunter’s supportive and encouraging teaching style further enhances the experience, creating a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable participating and exploring ideas. However, there are a few areas where the course could improve. Providing a more detailed rubric or showcasing examples of successful projects could make the assignment more accessible.
Overall, Professor Hunter’s dedication and the thoughtful structure of the course make it a standout experience at UCLA. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in the subject.
Easy class that I would highly recommend. Overall really interesting content, but somehow the topics seem not to be super connective, there isn't really a common thread throughout the class. Hunter is a great lecturer though and lectures are fun and interesting. Except the Haiku's those are annoying.
This class was one of my favorite classes of freshman year and also was extremely do-able! It consisted of two essays and one video project which was done with a group. The first essay was graded very fairly and I think everyone got a 100% on the final paper and video project. The course material was extremely interesting and Professor Hunter was an excellent lecturer. Overall highly recommend this class.
This class is sooooooo good. Omg. Take this shit. 5/5. I’m being serious. Drop all your other classes and TAKE THIS ONE. You won’t regret it. He ALWAYS ends class early. He offers so many extra credit opportunities. The midterm and final are essays but the prompts are so general that you can talk about anything. The book is cheap and interesting to read. His lectures are so amazing. He incorporates modern music and it was just an easy class but I still learned a lot. He’s a great guy, honestly. And you can fulfill participation through tweets ! TAKE THIS
This class was really cool and the work was very doable. If anyone would like to buy the required textbook for the class, Chocolate Cities, I am selling a brand new one for $24. You can email me at ************* or text me **********
