I don't think "ML" really cared if we learned anything from his class. His lectures were boring and a pain to sit through, and I unfortunately had to go to all of them because his class was not recorded. The exam asked very difficult questions and required an unnecessarily deep understanding of the subject to even pass. During the first exam, I caught him wearing a mask to virtue signal. It was pathetic.

Sisi was a good TA and I had no issues with her. However, I do have a problem with the purpose of this lab section in general. Even Martin said that we only have to do labs to complete "competency" requirements or some similar BS. The labs were never related to course content and felt completely separate. Labs really feel pointless, but I guess it's fine since they are free points.

Super easy, just make sure you go to lecture. There's a google drive out there with all his past tests. Make sure you get it because he will reuse problems 100% of the time. His tests are just compiled from old tests. He will even reuse problems from the practice exams he gives out.

Real reason to take this class though: Overall amazing person. Cared so much about us as students to the point where he almost cried talking about the state of the US and the suffering of us students. Went above and beyond to accommodate us as student. Years of industry knowledge and overall super funny guy. Clear and concise.

TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

He's a nice guy but sometimes his explanations during lecture don't make sense to me, even after asking for clarification. Lecture is not recorded and there are no slides-- Dr. Lee just writes on the whiteboard and erases as he goes.
I guess the exams were fine, mainly because we get to bring a double sided cheat sheet. Labs were not related to lecture and attendance wasn't required so many people skipped it, but I still attended because it was an easy way to get started on the lab assignments.

Tests were pretty reasonable, although sometimes unclear. Labs were pretty easy as well. Lectures are engaging but seem too easy for an upper division course. Applicability of the subject and his industry experience makes the course more enjoyable.

this class was honestly very early in the morning and it was difficult to stay alert and pay attention. i believe his midterms were fairly easy but the final is where i feel i was unprepared for. there was no possible way to prepare for the final but i would focus on the material from midterm 2 and on. this class is extremely conceptual and you have to make sure you understand the material to be able to apply it to the exams. the true and false were a pain. don’t underestimate this class because it could come to haunt u for the final. try to reread over your notes weekly!! he offers extra credit if you showed up to lecture but it honestly was not enough to make a difference.

Professor Lee is great, he teaches this class because he loves the subject and the students' passion. You can tell how much he enjoys discussing stats and real world examples.
Tests are easy, do practice problems that he gives and you'll be golden. Allows a one page cheat sheet as well. Labs are graded on completion, so not something to worry about, they're mostly to help you learn how to use excel for stats.
Grades nicely too, over 90% and he'll give you an A, doesn't generally do the -/+ thing.
I learned a lot and really enjoyed this class, would definitely recommend as an elective.

This was my third time taking a stats course. I took one at my community college, upper division psychology stats at UC Davis, and now biostats with Dr. Lee. This was a terrible introduction to the field for the people taking this as their first statistics course. It's almost like he assumed some statistical knowledge of the students coming in. It's a great add-on to the stats material I had already learned because he takes a slightly different focus, but I really would not recommend the class for anybody's first statistics course.
There is also the massive problem that his tests look absolutely nothing like the practice problems he gives out. I wish I could say more good things, because Dr. Lee was very nice and accommodating throughout the quarter but he just doesn't seem to have teaching this course in him anymore after all this time.

If you have taken a stats class before, this is pretty easy. It's just stats again with more biological examples. Additionally, this class is more application heavy rather than the theoretical aspect; you won't really be seeing the union and disjunct and that stuff, more of t tests and that kind of stuff. The tests had some T/F that could be confusing, so you really have to pay attention to lecture when he goes over it as it can get a bit confusing. Lectures were actually pretty good considering he didn't use slides and taught on a white board over zoom, and kept the students engaged for 2 hours. The lab can be confusing so just ask your TA when you encounter anything you don't understand. Also, with the tests, I never found any old tests, but if you study the notes and such it won't be that bad. Also, I didn't buy the course reader or use the textbook, so I don't think its necessary.

Dr. Lee was great and this class is great! It's easy, there's a lot of practice tests online (he reuses questions), and he's an engaging lecturer. He really cares about his students. The material isn't always that interesting, but he does his best to break things down well. He responds fast to emails and does his best to serve all of his students.

Professor Lee is the GOAT! One of the best professors I have ever had! I believe there needs to be more professors like him at UCLA who care about the students opinions and stands with them. His class is fairly easy and its very engaging! He loves cracking jokes which I enjoy since the class was a two hour class and some humor was amazing. He made biostats really fun! You don't really need to buy the textbook or course reader for his class! All you need to do is go to lecture and do the 6 labs that are required for you to do to pass the class! He gives no hw which is amazing as well and if you need practice he gives his past exams too! You will need to download STATA for the labs and its complicated to use at first but I had an amazing TA to help me on that! Try choosing your TA as Joanna Boland she is great! Takes a while to answer emails but she is there to help in whatever way possible! I would definitely take this class again and Professor Lee if you see this, from all the nursing department we would like to give a huge thank you to you for being patient and understanding!
