This teacher was literally the most boring person ever. Lecture was pointless.
There's 4 essays and the grading scheme is strange. VERY STRANGE. The first 2 essays i worked my ass off and got a B and a B+. The last 2 essays I got an A and an A- and I half-assed them because of midterms etc.
I took this class because I'm a south campus major taking a GE, and this class sounded interesting because of the title, Scientific Revolution. That was a bad decision
If you take this class you will be
1. Bored and fall asleep
2. Confused about he grading scheme
However, discussions were good. Try to get Jennifer for your TA.
I got an A- in this class There are 2 papers and a Final. I wrote both papers the night before they were due and I studied for the final for about 2-3 hours the night before. Still, to accomplish this, I had to thoroughly complete all the readings and pay attention in both lecture and the 2 hour long discussion. And THAT was extremely difficult since everything was SO damn boring! The readings are long and boring since they're written in technical and archaic language. They're not exactly difficult since their meaning can be easily figured out, but in order to do so you must really focus on the reading. If you're willing to do the work, this is a pretty easy A, but be aware that the dullness of the class might overpower your work ethic.
Do NOT take her. Most boring lecture ever, she goes off tangent a lot. Most of the readings are extremely hard to understand because they're mostly primary sources. The papers were a pain to write, and you will get deducted if you're writing doesn't look professional. Despite the name, this class is more philosophical-oriented than it is science. Unless history is your forte and you have a great background in reading/writing, I would not recommend this class.
As most reviews say, DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOTTTTTTTTTTTT TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!! Lecture is completely boring. Without exaggeration, 99% of ppl sitting in are sleeping. I even caught my TA sleeping, which really is saying something. Discussion is pointless too, 3A was just a pointless class. Now the workload, reading is fairly average for a GE but papers are minimal. 2 papers and a final, no midterm so not too bad. But unless you read you arent going to learn anything, because her lectures are terrible. There are hundreds of GE's and professors at UCLA, avoid this one.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
history 3A is seriously the WORST class that i have EVER taken. the lectures are ridiculously boring and the two hour long discussions completely ruin my day. Not only is a lot of reading assigned, but a lot of them are primary sources that are difficult to understand. getting an a in this class is possible, but you have to participate a lot and REALLY grasp all of the material. only take this course if you are completely confident in your history skills.
Prof. Terrall how college works and is a responsible teacher, but her technique and teaching style just weren't for me. Her lectures are dry at best, sleep-inducing if you are even a little bit tired. Her TAs grade fairly and will make or break your experience in her class. I felt that I received a grade that I deserved.
The subject matter is interesting enough to pull you through until the end, and you need to read all the material if you want to do well on the comprehensive final
