Winter 2026 - If you need the easiest of A's please enroll in this course. Especially, if you are an engineering major and need your life science requirement take this for it. I went to a total of one class and was able to get an A. Discussion is mandatory so you'll have to devote 1 hour out of your week for that where in discussion you will learn everything you need to know for the exams. The grades are scaled 20% discussion posts one every week, 30% discussion attendance/participation, 25% midterm, 25% final both the midterm and the final are just in class essays. There is also available extra credit if you don't get a good grade on one of your exams. Please take this course I promise you won't regret it.

Fall 2025 - I liked Dr. Scroggins. He was funny, but sometimes difficult to follow. He was one of three professors who taught during the fall quarter, and focused on economic and historical concepts. He posted his lecture notes which was really helpful, and I reviewed them before each test because I had trouble keeping up during lecture. There were two exams which were each worth 20% of the final grade, and the final didn't include topics from before the midterm so it was extremely manageable. The TAs provided study guides that were very similar to the actual tests. 15% of the final grade was based on an essay and a short speech that you present in your discussion session about GMOs, and the rest of the grade was from participation in discussion, lecture attendance, and annotations on the readings. The workload was pretty light, except that before each class you had to read 2-3 articles and write a couple comments (just graded for completion). I definitely recommend this cluster! It was really interesting, not too difficult, and balanced between STEM and humanities topics.

Winter 2024 - Professor Scroggins was a great professor for this cluster. His lectures are very engaging and his portion of the tests are not too difficult. I would recommend taking detailed notes during lecture for the test, but other than that not too many negative comments about the professor. If you sign up for the cluster you don't really have a choice to take this class, so don't worry, professor Scroggins is a great professor and you're in good hands!

Spring 2025 - I took Scroggins for the Biotechnology and Society: Business of Biology cluster seminar, and I would recommend it. The workload was very manageable and I'm pretty sure he gives anyone who puts in the effort an A. The class was based upon readings, discussions, and a term paper. Every week, there were assigned readings and people to discuss the readings. Simultaneously, throughout the quarter, we were supposed to write a 12-page term paper on a topic of our choice. Time wise, it was all very manageable and often interesting. He also ended the 3 hour seminar an hour early every single week. It was very easy and satisfied a lot of credits so I would recommend it.
