Professor Scroggins was a great professor for this cluster. His lectures are very engaging and his portion of the tests are not too difficult. I would recommend taking detailed notes during lecture for the test, but other than that not too many negative comments about the professor. If you sign up for the cluster you don't really have a choice to take this class, so don't worry, professor Scroggins is a great professor and you're in good hands!
This class was genuinely interesting and also a breeze. Grading is divided into 4 main components: a paper topic 2-pages due Week 4, a rough draft (8-12 pages) due Week 7, a final draft (12+ pages) due finals week, and a participation paper (2 pages) due by the end of the quarter detailing how you participated. There are also weekly discussions on lecture material but they're super easy and not graded themselves but included in the participation paper. For the main paper, you can also opt to do a project, either solo or in a group. The grading was easy and reasonable and the assignments were a bit daunting but since it's all you have to worry about all quarter it is totally manageable and the professor and TA give great feedback on your paper draft.
Overall a nice, chill class that is niche but interesting. Professor Scroggins is based and a total gem, has a PhD from Columbia but doesn't even put Dr. or PhD next to his name in the syllabus. Assignments are a discussion post per week, a 2 page participation paper, completion 2 page explanation of your quarter long project (which can be anything, be fun and creative with it) 7+ page draft of your project, then the 12+ final project essay/podcast. Generous with extra credit and very approachable. cool guy.
Legitimately one of the most interesting classes I've taken. The lectures were engaging and I was able to get into some great conversations with other students. The workload was also really reasonable and grading was not harsh at all. Would definitely take another class with Professor Scroggins.
one of the best classes i've ever taken, now taking 180 with scroggins for a 3rd time. cannot recommend enough for any hbs majors or soc gen mminors
