Professor Thau can be a very intimidating teacher but ultimately he made me very conscious about the way that I articulated myself in class and really pushed me to think. It would be helpful if anyone taking his philosophy 7 has previous experience in logic (philsophy 31). Professor Thau is not someone to take for an easy grade, but he can be a very funny, engaging lecturer. Expect writing a paragraph at the beginning of each class to be graded. Also, the midterms and finals were composed of quite a few short-answer questions, so you really have to know the material in order to answer them all in the allotted time.

I took Philosophy 7 during a summer session. Of course everyone whined and complained the whole time because they studied so hard and were still failing. I sure did get one hell of a logic bootcamp that's for sure. And the whiners decided philosophy wasn't their cup of tea and instead majored in economics or sociology.

Kinda arrogant, but it's philosophy.
