Keep up with the readings, ask questions in discussion and talk to your TA about your essay in office hours (the essay is worth a large part of your grade) and you can do well in the class! It is a lot of work/time but you definitely can get an A if you apply yourself.

Overall, this class was so much work. Yes, I did get an A, but it was such a pain. Second of all, I literally came out of the final feeling horrible. I was sure I had messed up the essay questions, and I was scared of getting a B-! My best tip is to go to your TA, and really get to know them (after all, they grade your essay). In all though, this class is really useless. While the information is kinda fun to learn, it's just mindless regurgitation to weed out prospective Comm majors. I was really scared all my work would be for a terrible grade, but I guess hard work really does pay off. Good luck!
I would not recommend this class as a GE, but if you’re looking to be a Comm major, it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be. The information is actually really interesting and the lectures are engaging. The hard part is the amount of information you need to accurately memorize for the tests. It’s super important to take really clear and detailed notes, which is tough. If you can do that though and study way in advance, you’ll be totally fine
I would not take this class unless you are sure you want to major in Communications. The content is very straightforward and easily digestible but the testing is difficult. Not a lot of understanding but mostly memorization of various lists and examples.
This class is very difficult and I would not recommend taking it unless you are interested in being a comm major or really interested in the study of communication. However, I found the lectures pretty interesting. This class gives a ton of work so it is important that you stay on schedule with the readings and notes. You also definitely need to go to all of the lectures and take careful notes, but don't need to go to discussion because attendance does not count at all towards your grades. I went to the first two discussions and didn't go for the rest of the quarter. I finished with an A- in this class but I put a tonnn of time in to studying and doing the work for this class.
This class is much easier than comm 10 and he is much nicer/ less of a jerk than in comm 10. If you come to class, take good notes and watch the movies for the midterm/final you should be fine and get an A. That said this class is really boring. I did not feel engaged in the subject matter at all. Suman doesn't use any tech in upper div class and the zero tech policy from comm 10 still stands in all his other courses. It's pretty straightforward to succeed in this class, but it is still Suman. If you can't be in class every day and take note of everything he says you won't do well. If you go to class, take notes and watch the material required you will be fine.
