Paul Habibi is the man. A huge success in the real estate field, he does a great job transferring his success to his students. I easily learned more in this class than in any other class at UCLA. The lectures are engaging and interesting, the case studies are relevant, and the tests are no-bs, even if they are a little hard. I didn't do excellently on the midterm but went to class and worked hard and still ended up with an A. Definitely a class to take at UCLA.
Awesome Professor!
I'm a psych. major and just took MGMT 180 because I had heard the Professor Habibi speak before and he was really interesting. This was the most useful and practical class I've taken at UCLA, and it got me through some tough job interviews with RE Finance Companies. Regardless of where your interest lies in Real Estate this class will teach you some good stuff, and the professor through in some great tips and stories for his experiences. The professor kept us interested, and the material was very reasonable... I ended up with an A+ and others in the class also did well.
Overall: I would HIGHLY recommend this class.
Bad teacher! Gives attitude to students, and thinks he's better than everybody else. He always tries to impress the girls in the class by repeatedly bragging about his apparently properties.. The class could be very interesting with another instructor
I took this class because of all the rave reviews I read. Unfortunately, I ended up a little disappointed. Its true that Habibi is entertaining and concerned about students understanding the real estate game. However, if you are someone that needs structure and clarity you will often leave class frustrated. The notes ("modules") he provides usually don't follow his lectures which becomes absolutely maddening because he speaks quickly and doesn't write much down. Lectures are more like hearing a real estate investor give you tips on the business than a class designed to systematically teach students the material. The tests are not easy and leave you wishing the lectures had been less entertaining and more to the point.
Basically, I did better and walked away having learned more in Ravetch's class even though tests were tricky because I knew how to apply myself to the material. In Habibi's class I was ready to work hard but didn't know how to apply my time/effort and that drove me crazy. It kind of depends on your personality and learning style. In any case, if you just want to take an interesting class for p/np credit then this is a good choice--but remember that homework/case studies/the project are going to take up a good amount of time.
Easily one of the best professors on campus! Not only does he care about students take-away from the class, but also their experience during class. He is wildly entertaining, knowledgeable, and provides very practical info. The class is demanding, but it is absolutely worth the effort. You'll walk away looking for your first deal.
MUST TAKE!
The course uses a combination of lectures and case studies. There is also a group project where you choose your own real estate property-- that was very useful and actually fun; the professor is very helpful if you need any guidance.
Wish I knew about this class and took it earlier! Professor Habibi is great at teaching and explaining concepts in an easily comprehensible manner. Let me break it down:
PROS:
*Easily approachable - very friendly
*Always available if you have questions - responds to email quickly
*Great lecture material - well-organized lecture material
*Interesting lectures
*Teaches lessons from his personal experience
*You'll learn things that you'll actually use in life
*Cares about improving his lectures by having students write an eval.in middle of quarter so he can modify his lectures accordingly
CONS:
*Probably going to be difficult to sign up for the class cause it's so popular! (but heard he's adding a new section)
