Selling my Paperback Course Reader. It has some light underlining in it, but other than that is in really good condition. I took this class in Fall of 2020, but used a Course Reader from 2018- which Kellman said was totally fine. He's swapped out some of the readings, so note that this reader might not have ALL of the readings you need for your quarter, but when I took this course, my class mates were kind enough to send me PDF's of the articles I was missing. The readings are DENSE and your grade is based entirely on discussion of the readings, so it was definitely helpful for me to have a hard copy as opposed to the online PDF version. $40 (includes shipping). Email ************* if you want it.

Really solid class and good professor, but you have to do the readings because they are the only class material. Selling course reader from Fall 2017, light highlighting/notes. Text ********** if interested

this class was super poorly structured!! would definitely have taken this with a different professor if i had the chance to because i found the topics themselves to be interesting (despite wanting to fall asleep every lecture). every week covers a different topic with 2 different sets of readings and each lecture goes over its respective reading. Kellman's lecturing is almost like a socratic seminar in that there are no slideshows and he merely discusses the material of the readings and occasionally opens the floor for students to ask questions about it. the readings are also pretty long and tedious and can go into concepts that are very complex, which, coupled with Kellman's lack of structures in his lectures, left me and many other classmates confused on what to study by the time the midterm and final came around. our review sessions were just an open Q&A with the TA that were mostly questions asking if X concept would be on the exam, and because of that, we often couldn't cover much material in the review sessions. the exams also tested us on many concepts that were vaguely brushed over in our lectures, or never even mentioned at all (which is why studying the readings, while extremely time-consuming, helped me out a lot!!). i also didn't appreciate Kellman's attitude towards students asking questions about material coverage on the exam, as he would often answer with the usual "students care too much about grades and not about learning" spiel. but i digress!!

if you're reading this and you're taking this class with him in the future, here's some tips i would give (as someone who flunked the midterm but did well enough on the final to get a B):
- do the readings early and take notes on them. this helped me understand the lectures well. don't half-ass them and ONLY feed them to chatgpt or gemini. ai can be helpful in giving overall summaries/explanations of concepts, but you'll be able to pick up on the small, minute details he tests you on AND understand the material better if you do the readings yourself. even if the readings are super long, even reading a few pages is MUCH better than not doing them at all. taking notes also helped me when the midterms and exams rolled around so i didn't have to reread the excerpts themselves.
- do the SONA extra credit and do it early! spots for online studies become MUCH MUCH more limited as the quarter comes to an end.
- take everything your TA says with a grain of salt. our TA said we didn't need to know the studies discussed in our readings for the midterm. our midterm asked to name what happened in said studies. 😭
- use the spacing and testing effects to study! we actually cover these concepts in the class but you should 1. space out your study sessions and don't cram and 2. utilize active recall for better memory retention.

Class structure isn't that great- it's hard to know what to study for a multiple choice exam simply based on talking about the material in class. But, I really enjoyed learning about the material and I appreciated that the professor was also really engaged and interested in the readings. For the midterm and final, just study the main points of each thing. If you don't know the main points of each thing, ask the TA to help summarize it. Also be sure to know the studies done in the readings. Honestly, if you have a good TA, this class is probably going to be fine. DO THE EC. Depending on the class curve, if you get 3 credits of the SONA studies, he bumps your grade 3%.

I liked the content despite the long readings we were assigned. The class was made up of 15% participation, 30% midterm, 30% final, 25% 1-page reaction papers. The reaction papers were based off of the readings and were due right before lecture. That means there were two per week and they had to be at least 250 words. These are very open-ended. I would turn in a page of notes of of the readings and they were accepted. One complaint I have of this class with this professor are the lectures and readings. The readings were SO LONG and I had no idea what to focus on. I didn't like the lecture style because I felt like it was executed very poorly. They had potential to be super helpful but they fell flat in my opinion. I would be so bored trying not to fall asleep. The midterm and final were alright but I still feel like I could have done much better if the class was more straightforward. I would retake this class with a different professor. Don't get me wrong, this class with Professor Kellman was not terrible, just average. I would take this class with someone else if someone better was offered. To end on a good note, all you need to do in the class to pass is to tae really good notes and try to find key terms you think are important. Take notes during lecture and review everything was discussed in the readings later in the day. I think if you keep up with the readings and review possible key terms, you'll do great!

Professor Kellman is so intelligent and personable! I really enjoyed this class and found it to be a great overall intro to my intended major of study. I thought his lectures were interesting and I always learned something new from them, however, as other people pointed out sometimes they were not conducive to prepping for a regular exam, as there were no slides or summaries of exactly what we needed to know. Lots of reading each week from the course reader, but I found the assignments to be engaging most of the time. Do the reading!! That's literally the entire basis of the class, you will be lost without it. One crazy easy "reaction page" each week is the only other assignment. Easy way to take notes to study later for the exam. Overall, I really like Professor Kellman and would recommend this class, you just need to be ready to put in the time and effort!

do yourself a favor and avoid this class at all costs. genuinely if you need the grade just avoid. class structure is completely abnormal, there is no slides. u are required to show up for attendance having read the required readings for that day and then you just listen to the prof talk the entire time about it. there are 20+ readings with 20+ pages each that you have to memorize for exams, he does NOT tell you whats important. he also disappeared and we had subs/had the TA teach prior to the midterm which was actually laughable bc they were a mess. wish i had a different TA too, he makes the most useless reviews of all time. I honestly cannot fathom how this class is made for students to "learn better" because I have never done worse than I have in this class.

Do not take this class with this professor. He is really passionate with poor teaching methods exams are tricky, no extra credit, no slides, lectures are dense and basically you don't know your grades until the end. So it does not let you drop it in case you don't go well.

Professor Kellman is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about his area, but his teaching style is poor. His lectures are very meandering and not focused at all; it was very hard to determine what was the most important information because of this, compounded by density of the readings and the info those included. Definitely come prepared to discuss the topics and engage because that gets you brownie points!!! The T.A. Victoria was excellent in helping us prepare for the midterm and final, but even with her help, the tests were still difficult because Kellman words questions in a tricky manner and there were questions about very specific info that was buried in the reading and not emphasized in lecture at all. Final grades will apparently be curved nicely, I know that a lot of people are counting on this curve. I worked my ass off in this class and if you put in the effort, I'm sure you will get the grade you deserve.
