Quarter: Fall 2023
Grade: A+

Dr. Reslan was a very nice and helpful professor. She hosted multiple OH, always had zoom review sessions before each exam, and often took out material from our exams to make it less stressful for us.

However, her lectures are not very easy to understand. She often goes into detail about conceptual ideas (that we don't need to know that thoroughly) and the 50 minute lecture times were about 90% of the time not enough for her to finish the lecture slides of that day.

But the TAs were super nice!! If you get a chance to have Kat Codeiro as your TA i would definitely recommend taking her section :)) soso helpful and she retaught all the material to be clear and concise.

Quarter: Fall 2023

Dr. Reslan is a great professor to have for 14A. I think the only drawback (in my opinion)to her teaching is that she often goes on tangents about conceptual aspects of topics (tip: its usually not on the tests don't waste your time learning about all the topics about the experiments and stuff). However, if you care about really learning the conceptual aspects behind the topics then she's great for that too. Her tests are pretty straightforward and she provides all the material you need. Just look at the powerpoints (not the textbook) for the tests and stuff and pay attention to the reviews she does for the tests. Overall, great professor and I would take this class again.

I used to be really good at and enjoy chemistry prior to taking this class, but after this quarter I’m extremely disappointed with my experience. The material itself was not difficult and is introductory, but the way it was taught was very confusing and scattered. Material that is meant to be easy and for “beginners” was made to be difficult to understand. The class was not organized whatsoever and the lectures were always chaotic. Be prepared to teach the material to yourself. There were always misunderstandings and mistakes in the answer keys and announcements.

Professor Reslan is super nice. She is very funny and amiable. The workload is light, the class material is pretty easy, and the exams are not hard at all. Professor Reslan would post practice exams before every test, and if you get all of that, you will do well.
I personally think that sometimes Professor Reslan does not explain the material clear enough, so if you are looking to build a strong foundation in chemistry, maybe this class is not the best choice? But if you just want an easy chemistry credit and be done with chemistry, this is a great class for you.

Quarter: Fall 2023
Grade: A

Key words: easy A, not very engaging lectures, nice professor.
Reslan is a very chill and easygoing professor. She had a whole plan on her syllabus, but she was kinda teaching slowly in the beginning so towards the end we didn't cover all the material. I feel like I could've gotten more out of this class, but I guess the 50-minute lectures wasn't enough. She did post recordings of her past lectures but I never watched those. Honestly, you can choose 1 out of 3 options: read the textbook and understand like 70% of what was covered (which was mostly what I did), go to her lectures and take notes (I did that for like 3 classes), or listen to her recordings of past lectures (which was recommended by my friend but I never did). Her midterms and final were fine; a lot of people complained about not having enough time in the second midterm but if you really knew what was going on and worked quickly enough, the problems weren't hard at all.
Chem is about understanding and grinding problems. Do the discussion worksheets and the optional textbook problems; they'll help you understand more of what's going on. I don't see why you couldn't succeed in this class by grinding problems, but if you really need extra help go to her TAs' office hours and ask questions. They're nice and good at explaining things. Don't worry, but of course you need to put in some work, if not 100% of your effort.

It really has to do a lot with the professor because Dr.Reslan made this class enjoyable. She is so helpful and thankfully the tutor was helpful as well. This class was probably my least stressful one.

Prof. Reslan always gives out clear study guide and plenty of practice questions. She also makes herself available through office hours and after class and truly cares for all of her students. Her classes are so fun because she likes to make jokes every now and then. Prof. Reslan is a very likable person, and I would definitely recommend taking Chem 17 with her!

reslan is an angel! she is sooo funny and nice. i hate chemistry and i am also bad at it. i did really well on the midterms. i had a difficult time personally around finals season and dropped the ball on the final, but i ended up getting an A- so i have to thank her grading scheme for that. she's super helpful, lectures are recorded, and she hosts review sessions + posts practice exams/review for every single exam!! i had to take chem or physics for my major and this is probably the best decision i could've made as a non-sciencey person

Randa Reslan is one of the best professors at UCLA. For her tests, just study the practice tests as most of the questions on the test are the same as the ones on the practice test but with slightly different numbers. Overall, very easy class. I personally just watched the lectures and didn't even attend class as they were recorded, and this was enough to earn an A+.
