Randa Reslan is one of the best professors at UCLA. For her tests, just study the practice tests as most of the questions on the test are the same as the ones on the practice test but with slightly different numbers. Overall, very easy class. I personally just watched the lectures and didn't even attend class as they were recorded, and this was enough to earn an A+.

This was by far one of the best chemistry classes I have taken. Reslan was very clear and exact in her work and gave a lot of examples. I took the asynchronous class and it was very easy. There were a couple take home quizzes that were very closely related to lecture recordings. The recordings were a bit long but it was only because she did a lot of practice examples and gave full informative explanations. She is a quick responder to emails. I personally did not go to the discussion sections, but some of my friends in the class said they were very informative. The TAs also collabed and sent out weekly review summarizations of the content. The practice midterms and final were almost the same as the actual tests, and for our final, she gave us at least 30 points in extra credit questions. Highly recommend this class even if it is just for a GE!!!
Asynchronous Class checklist:
Never attend zoom meetings except for the first one because you're afraid that zoom attendance/participation matters (it doesn't) ✓
Never attend discussions except for the first one because you're afraid that discussion attendance/participation matters (it doesn't) ✓
Skim the textbook on maybe one occasion ✓
Never watch a recording (besides a midterm/final review session) ✓
Miss one week's worth of homework and bs all the homework that you do do ✓
Turn in two quizzes late and don't turn in one quiz at all ✓
Study the hell out of the practice midterms/final an hour before the midterm/final ✓
The midterms are ridiculously easy if you study the practice exams that professor gives out. A majority of the questions on the exam are word for word, if not number for number, the exact same as on her practice versions. The format is the same too in terms of number of multiple choice and free response questions.
I forgot how she weighted her class but pray that it's heavily weighted on the exams so you don't have to do any work throughout the course.
Quizzes are easy, you get unlimited tries on the homework, and exams are free.
You can also bully her into making tests easier if you complain enough which is kinda crazy but definitely unnecessary.
The two times that I saw her was during the in person finals, she seemed really chill. Good vibes.
If you are a hands on kind of learner who needs a lot of homework and classwork to do and check-ins to make etc., maybe try her in person class, but bottom line, this review is probably not for you.
Dr. Reslan is a great professor. She genuinely cares for her students and is always looking for their best interests. For both Midterm 1 and 2 she removed topics so that it would be easier for the students to take her midterms. All her midterms are very fair. Her midterm 2 was. a bit long and most did not finish, but that was the department forcing her hand and not and fault of her own. I would definitely take any class with her as a professor!
reslan is an angel! she is sooo funny and nice. i hate chemistry and i am also bad at it. i did really well on the midterms. i had a difficult time personally around finals season and dropped the ball on the final, but i ended up getting an A- so i have to thank her grading scheme for that. she's super helpful, lectures are recorded, and she hosts review sessions + posts practice exams/review for every single exam!! i had to take chem or physics for my major and this is probably the best decision i could've made as a non-sciencey person
Great professor! She was really good at making chemistry manageable and she was really nice (she literally asked us if we wanted something on the midterm and took it off because we said no). The class overall was pretty chill. It was just as easy as chem honors in high school. There's 2 midterms and finals, but they're all easier than the homework assignments. The most we had to memorize was the metric prefixes (khddcm) and some polyatomic ions. Also, you get an index card for the final, which is great.
If you have the option to take this class with Dr. Reslan, do it! She was so helpful and clear with concepts and doesn't expect you to know anything about chemistry prior to going into the class. She uses slides and annotates them during lecture and uploads then after so you can see exactly what she worked through, and also records lectures. Sections were easy, all you do is work through a worksheet based on that week's content for participation. The tests were surprisingly easy and I ended with over 100% because of extra credit opportunities. Take this class!
I LOVEEEE Professor Reslan sooo much. She's literally so funny and girl boss. I would say the class was easy but I definitely slacked off on the first midterm (now looking back I'm like wth because it was soo easy) so if it wasn't for that I would of probably gotten an A. Regardless I would recommend taking this class, especially if you already have some basic prior knowledge of chem. If you need an easier GE or for a requirement I recommend this class. I would suggest just studying a bit more if you don't have any prior knowledge (like I did). She's extremely helpful and gave out practice exams. Her sense of humor is the best and definitely made the lecture more interesting.
