One of my favorite professors at UCLA, his material is engaging and intersting. I have taken 2 classes with him CCAS143 and CCAS 178. In both classes the work was very manageable, straightforward and easy. Each week it was probably less than an hours worth of work. The work was to read an article and write a 200-300 word reflection. No tests, just essays that were really like self-reflections. I attended class maybe 5 times max out of 20 and passed with an A. Though I really feel like I learned something valuable. If you do all the work and attend section, you will pass. No need to study outside of the work given. I would definitely take another class with him again. He seems to really care for his students and takes into account our capabilities as students.

One of the most useless and incompetent professors I have ever taken in UCLA, Professor Romero spent almost 2 hours of class time looking at his notes and powerpoint as a way of lecturing about Chicano/Chicana issues. For a guy who lectures about his research, he just seemed like he did not know anything about it! Yes, I found the material to be interesting but having him as the professor for the class just did not match. I appreciated how easy the assignments (expert reading 10%, 5 page paper 30%, 6-8 page paper 60%) were, but I can't believe that in the end he made a mistake in my grade. It has taken me 2-3 weeks to get my grade to change and at least 5 unanswered emails before he actually did something about it. My grade had reflected that, I did not turn in one of the assignments. But low and behold he lost one of my assignments. Now I understand making mistakes, but the slow process just makes me skeptical that he even cared to change it in the first place.

Advice: If you are looking to take an easy A class, this is the class for you. Don't attend lecture, turn in your assignments on time and hope for the best that he does not make a mistake on grading you.
